If you look at the Horizon team, we knew they would have a pretty good season, but now they’re going above and beyond. They have arguably the best front-court duo in the state with two bigs who dominate, but they needed stellar guard play to match that. Enter Jeramiah. Jeramiah has answered the call for Horizon. He’s been a standout for a few seasons, but now it looks comfortable for him. He’s impacting the game from all levels. He’s putting up an impressive 12.1 points and 3.3 rebounds a game, but what really has stood out is his ability to keep everyone involved. He’s averaging 5.2 assists a game and keeping everyone happy. He’s flirted with a double-double in the past few games with 9 assists, and he’s taking care the basketball too. His assist-to-turnover ratio is what really stands out for me as he’s the leader on the court despite not being the team’s best player. Very good year for the glue guy of the conference.
Chavez has stepped into the role of senior leader that Horizon has needed, and his impact has been consistent all season. He’s averaging 14.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game while serving as a reliable presence with the ball in his hands. As a scorer he’s confident and composed, knocking down jumpers and stretching the defense with his three point shooting. What stands out most is his trustworthiness as a ball handler where he makes smart decisions, limits mistakes and keeps the offense organized. His ability to balance scoring with playmaking, especially in pressure moments, is translating to wins and steady production. That combination of leadership, efficiency and shot making is why Chavez’s play is pushing him firmly into the rankings conversation
Horizon needed stability in the backcourt, and Chavez has delivered. He’s controlling tempo, getting the ball where it needs to go, and picking his moments to attack. As the primary handler, he’s been composed as he handles pressure, and more importantly, he’s been efficient. He’s averaging solid assist numbers while also offering scoring when it’s required. With Horizon’s frontcourt talent, his balance is critical and keeps defenses honest. The more he settles in, the higher their ceiling becomes, but he’s off to an extremely hot start to the season.
Jeremiah Chavez took over the game in the first quarter, giving Mountain Range a powerful start. Chavez is a 3-level scorer who can convert inside, mid range shots and three point bombs. Chavez has a high motor and doesn’t let off the gas pedal until the clock hits triple zeros.
Chavez is a willing playmaker, actively setting up teammates for good looks around the perimeter. A knockdown perimeter shooter as well, Chavez holds his own on attempts off the catch.
