Indiana Elite struggled this weekend but Mack-Russell had some bright moments as a scorer. When Mack-Russell is knocking down shots off the catch it helps open up the rest of his offensive game and that’s what happened on Sunday as he hit some early jumpers and then got going downhill to the rim. Mostly playing as a below the rim finisher, Mack-Russell had a couple and-1 finishes in transition this weekend. After a solid opening session out in California, Indiana Elite 17 U will look to bounce back in July and help their players earn some new offers and interest.

Once again, Mack-Russell was excellent in the Indiana Elite 3SSB 17u backcourt. The big, strong guard from Winton Woods High School in Ohio dominates with his size and physicality from the perimeter while also proving that he can knock it in from three-point range. He had another big weekend and is poised for a breakout in the upcoming live period.

Arguably the best player in the gym this weekend at The Stage, Mack-Russell simply dominated the competition while leading Indiana Elite 3SSB to a 4-0 record. His physicality as a 6’4″ guard/wing allowed him to dominate at the end of his drives and score against size around the basket. Mack-Russell, from Winton Woods High School in Ohio, had 30 points in one game we watched over the weekend.

One of the top prospects in Ohio’s 2027 class, Mack-Russell has been dominant for a currently unbeaten Winton Woods squad. Mack-Russell is so strong and powerful as an athlete, he is incredible to watch in the open court and uses his physicality to overpower weaker defenders at the rim. Hoping to see Mack-Russell continue to gain confidence as a perimeter attacker, he still likes to lower his shoulder into defenders too often. As a shooter, Mack-Russell has shown clear growth this season, knocking down a time and space 3-pointer from the corner and hitting a 18-foot pull-up jumper in this game. Efficient from the floor, Mack-Russell was 7/10 from the field and 3/4 from the foul line to score his 18 points in the win.

Winton Woods and Bishop Hartley were in a very closely contested game until the 4th quarter, which is when Mack-Russell took the game over. He just started to put his head down and attack the rim. He has an impressive back-to-the-basket midrange game. He spins out of his post-up with such force and finishes above the rim and through contact so good. This has complemented his game so well because he is great in the full court and transition, but now has something that is as tough to stop in the half-court. His defense was also great. He is an incredible rim protector as he can go block the shot at any point with his length and leaping ability.

Making the move from Toledo Central Catholic to Cincinnati Winton Woods should allow Mack-Russell to play against more up-tempo teams and thrive in transition. One of the most athletic players in the state, Mack-Russel has the physical tools to dominate the ECC. I expect Winton Woods to contend in a crowded Division II region that’s stacked with northwest and southwest Ohio powerhouses, if they emerge could Mack-Russell stay in the Mr Basketball convo?

It was nice to see Mack-Russell knock down a pair of 3-pointers on Wednesday to help him score 21 points in an impressive victory over Compton Magic. Mack-Russell is a powerful athlete who can score from the baseline off cuts and second chance opportunities. If Mack-Russell can consistently space the floor then he could add to his high major offer list this weekend.

Mack-Russell is the best player in the state, and you see this when you go to his games. He is at a new school this year, and he fits like a glove. His size and athleticism will fit perfectly with the Winton Woods team and how they want to play. He seems to be getting bigger and more athletic, but also seems like the game is slowing down for him as well. He can get all the way to the rim whenever he wants, but he does not force it. He knows what spots of the floor to be in off the ball. His IQ for the game is starting to really come through. With more familiarity with his teammates, I expect him to be more aggressive, but I loved how he was able to impact the game without needing the ball in his hands.

One of the top prospects in Ohio, Mack-Russell was productive just using his athleticism and physical tools to make winning plays. With numerous offensive rebounds and finishes in traffic, Mack-Russell helped his team stay competitive with some of Kentucky’s best. Mack-Russell also had some perimeter shooting flashes with one 18-foot top of key shot and another one dribble pull-up. If Mack-Russell can consistently hit perimeter shots and 3-pointers he will make an impact at the college level.

Mack-Russell impressed on the interior with his ability to finish around and willed his way to scoring chances. He got rebounds with his length. He was able to get to the foul line. Mack-Russell can guard multiple positions. He plays a lot bigger than his size. Want to see Isaiah look to shoot more from behind the arc.
