At the Expo I noticed that Horne’s ball handling/dribble separation looked much improved and he was getting to the rim beating players with the dribble as much as he was his physical abilities. I thought…. maybe this is just the style of game….. but we saw Horne do it again at the fall league to score vs Tonka. And if Horne gets the corner on most high school wings, he is too strong for them to make a play on him and they surely can’t deal with his lift to a finish.

A real second glance was taken quite a few times watching Horne handle the basketball this weekend. There is a much better comfort for Gideon dribbling the basketball in various ways than previously seen and it helped him score at the rim in the halfcourt quite a few times. And…. he had like 16 dunks in three games.

Horne brought high-energy and athleticism to the floor, sparking his team’s momentum with highlight-reel plays on both ends. Defensively, he was a force as a help defender, poking balls away from driving guards and soaring at the rim for emphatic block shots. Offensively, the Richfield prospect used a crafty handle to comfortably get to his sweet spots while keeping teammates involved through crisp backdoor passes and timely transition feeds.

In the half-court and around the rim Horne’s quickness and leaping ability make him a threat for quick scores, offensive rebounds, and put back. One waved off dunk Horne had was a post-up that he moved into the lane and spun half 360 off two feet for a dunk. Horne displayed a bit more ball handling chops in the open floor showing potential for him to have the ball in his hands a little more and on a couple drives made passes to teammates open along the perimeter.

Horne’s athletic ability gives him a huge advantage in transition and defensively. His ability to slide around positions gives him good positional flexibility.

Horne’s a great leaper, especially off two-feet and finishes strong above the rim. Horne brings great energy on the offensive glass and with his lateral quickness Horne really can get after opponents on the perimeter and in the full-court.

Gideon Horne Gideon Horne 6'4" | PF Richfield | 2027 State MN – The six-foot-four-inch 2027 Horne is a power and explosive leaper, especially off two-feet. The Sizzle MHC forward was active, cutting to the rim against GB Blue Devils and finishing an early basket above the rim. Horne had three baskets in which he caught the ball at the 3-pointer arc, put the ball on the floor and drove by opposing defenders for lay-up finishes. I counted 11 made shots at the rim for Horne totaling 23 points. Horne has good length, and is an active defender off the ball and uses lateral quickness to defend on the perimeter.
