It’s very rare where a Division III commit is the best player on the floor in a Division I state title game but that’s exactly what Appiah did on Saturday with some huge plays throughout the contest. Appiah has really improved as an athlete, dunking consistently in transition and playing with a spring in his step. Also a knockdown shooter off the catch, Appiah is at his best when playing in transition. After winning the NCAC title this past season, guys like Appiah will look to keep Denison at the top of the conference as they look to establish themselves as a powerhouse at the Division III level.

Appiah got going early on few leakout dunks that got the Pioneer faithful off their seats. I’ve been impressed with the growth Appiah has shown as a decision maker and made a couple nice passes against the press and half-court. Strong performance for Appiah who also was aided by

Olentangy Orange gave CIA Bella Vista all they could handle with a 32 minute war that featured neither team generating much of an advantage all game long. Appiah made key shots when he was left open and had a sweet lefty drive and finish against full court pressure. A high academic prospect who makes smart plays on the court, Appiah also took care of the basketball with just one turnover. The Pioneers continue to impress with neither of their losses coming to in-state competition, they still remain one of the favorites to win it all come March.

Appiah had a nice game just playing his role and knocking down shots when they came to him. His first bucket was a putback layup off a second chance opportunity and then Appiah attacked a closeout and made a nice kickout pass to a shooter. Appiah then attacked a closeout and finished with a reverse layup and had a couple transition layups to cap off an efficient scoring night where the ball was swung to him and he took advantage of the looks provided by his teammates. A winning basketball player who will do what is necessary to find the floor at the high school and college level.

Appiah is a high-level finisher at the rim. He has some impressive finishes at the rim. He is acrobatic in the air and knows how the find the right angle to get his shot off. He has an amazing touch with both hands around the rim. He does a great job applying pressure at the rim in transition. He has a good build and size for this type of game as well. I think he is going to be one of the better players on an elite Olentangy Orange squad.

Appiah had a really good showing and seems to be a player blowing up this year on this Olentangy Orange squad. He is a long and athletic player who defended the ball great tonight. He is such a natural player. He gets to the rim consistently and has some real acrobatic finishes. Great touch around the rim. He has good confidence and swag to him. He knows he is about to have a big year ahead.

Olentangy Orange fared well against some of the top teams in Michigan and I caught a win over Brother Rice on Saturday. Appiah has consistently made an impact defensively and stepped up this weekend with some tough match-ups against very talented opposition. His athleticism, intensity and physicality makes him tough to score on. Also turning defense into offense, Appiah had a couple steals that led to breakaway layups for himself or a teammate. As a complimentary piece offensively, Appiah is finding his role and made some plays as a cutter and slasher, also executing some BLOB plays for buckets. Already identified by a couple regional high academic Division III programs, Appiah’s recruitment has started to get the ball rolling and should continue to build momentum as the high school season approaches.

Appiah grew on me the more I watched him play. He can do a little of it all. He is a good athlete with some serious bounce. He has good size and strength so this allows him to be a really good defender. He is super physical on both ends of the floor and it allows him to excel on the offensive end. He is a really good slasher. He makes good reads on defense. Simply just has a good feel for the game and sees things before they happen.

A new name for me, I caught Appiah on the Prep Hoops Circuit back in April where he had a big two-way impact. That’s exactly what Olentangy Orange will hope for with Appiah next season as he could replace

in the starting lineup who is their only senior starter who graduated. If not, Appiah projects to be a key bench piece once again for the Pioneers who will use his length, athleticism and activity defensively against top scoring options. Appiah also showed me some scoring ability off the bounce with his ability to get into the lane. Think Appiah should get some small college interest either in June or in the winter considering the amount of marquee games Olentangy Orange is projected to have on their schedule.

Charging Elite played one of the most entertaining games of the day and while they fell short Vs KY Rise, I walked away really impressed with Appiah. A player who played a bench role for Olentangy Orange last season, Appiah should see a brighter spotlight as a senior with more opportunities to shine on both ends of the court. With a quick first step, Appiah was able to get downhill and attack the basket. I also noticed that Appiah’s relentless slashing ability put him in positions to grab his own misses and hit some putback layups. Appiah also hit a couple spot-up 3-pointers as he can knock down shots when his feet are set from downtown. With his impressive athleticism, Appiah also had a steal and a blocked shot from behind. Consistently bringing the intensity that he showed today will make Appiah a target for regional Division III schools.
