When I first scouted Okorie at the NEPSAC Showcase this past summer, it was his end-to-end speed, quickness and finishing ability that stood out. Even though he’s only 6-foot-1, the senior guard is a ridiculous athlete and has an insane finishing bag. But against Tilton on Monday, Okorie impressed me with his shooting and defense. He made a bunch of shots from the perimeter and looks like he has an improved shot, which will be big for him at Stanford next year. He also gets low in a stance and has super active hands, making him a nightmare to dribble against. He should be able to get minutes right away.

Okorie finalized his college plans with a commitment to Harvard University. A terrific lead guard, Okorie proved to be one of the best prospects in the 3SSB this summer with running with BABC. On the offensive end of the floor, he’s turned himself into a dynamic, three level scorer. He does a nice job of knocking down shots when he’s off the ball, but mostly navigates with the ball in his hands. He’s a good athlete with nice burst and the ability to finish through contact at the rim. Defensively, he’s a terrific on-ball defender that does a great job at the point of attack. He’s quick laterally, has good hands, and is disruptive in passing lanes off the ball. Harvard lands their point guard of the future, as Okorie looks ready to step in and contribute in the Ivy League on Day 1.

Despite being a 6-foot point guard, Okorie’s athleticism, craft, and feel in the lane allow him to be an exceptional finisher. He’s ambidextrous and seems equally effective with both hands. He’s also quite adept at making the dump down and kick out pass when the defenders flock to him in the paint, which happens very often as a result of his ridiculous quickness and active off-hand. Defensively, Okorie has great instincts and feel for how his opponent wants to get to the rim. He’s getting low and mid D1 offers, and more should be coming soon.

Okorie really impressed with his on-ball defense. He gave opposing ball-handlers trouble all game with his ability to slide laterally. Offensively, his ambidextrous handle allows him to attack and finish with both hands among the trees. He got into the paint at will. Definite scholarship player.

Okorie is a guard with a high basketball IQ, and the ability to both score and facilitate at a high-level. His ability to handle the basketball, and move on and get open without the ball, allow him to play on or off the ball. He has a smooth game, and a variety of scoring moves that are hard to stop. Okorie can also defend at a high level, staying in front of opposing perimeter players and causing turnovers.
