Mingo hasn’t played this season due to an injury and will be fresh when he arrives in Chapel Hill in the summer to start his freshman season at UNC. The Tar Heels don’t have a top 10 pick since Coby White but with Caleb Wilson likely breaking that streak this season, Mingo will hope to make it back-to-back drafts with a Tar Heel in the top 10. Not much to update about Mingo, I am extremely high on his upside and Prep Hoops was the first public rankings outlet to move Mingo into the top 5 of the national rankings last spring.

One of the youngest 2026 prospects in the country, Mingo was the only 16 year old from the 2026 class invited to participate in Team USA Minicamp in October. Injuries have halted some of the opportunities to see Mingo, with him being unable to play at Team USA Minicamp, Peach Jam and other recent events. Once he gets fully healthy, he should be the leader of a Long Island Lutheran squad that should contend for Nike and Chipotle national championships. Mingo’s big brother is a freshman at Penn State and while the Nittany Lions are involved, schools like UCONN, Nc State, Alabama, Miami, UNC and more are all interested in Mingo at the moment.

Mingo had the gym buzzing from start to finish, putting on a show from one game to the next on his way to obvious Camp MVP honors. Getting to showcase his extensive ball-in-hand ability after years of taking a back seat in high school, he averaged nearly 24/7/7 across four games while running a clinic on pick-and-roll operation. Mingo routinely used his size and handle to work into the middle of the floor where he could score in any number of ways or pick the defense apart as a passer. A consistent standout on the defensive end, he’s also continued to show growth as a shooter, knocking down 6 of his 17 attempts from long range while displaying comfort in the midrange pullup game and converting 17-of-22 (77%) at the line. His performance had college coaches and NBA scouts alike reconsidering the Long Island native’s place in the conversation among the nation’s truly elite long-term prospects.

Competition for the #1 ranking in the national class is seemingly wide open, and if conversations throughout the weekend are any indication, Mingo figures to be right in the thick of debates for that top spot if his play in Memphis is a sign of things to come. After taking a backseat to older teammates in the winter, Mingo has been aggressive and mostly dominant on both ends of the floor this spring. This weekend was no different as he averaged 20.5 points on 50% shooting (despite an uncharacteristic 0-for on Sunday), routinely knifing his way downhill as perhaps the most dynamic driver in the class. Mingo still showed his versatility despite the heavy scoring load, sharing primary ballhandler duties while dishing out over 3 assists per game, grabbing almost 3 steals per game, and chipping in on the glass with his frontcourt depleted by injury to the tune of more than 8 rebounds a contest. He didn’t have his 3-ball working, which showed signs of improvement during the season and figures to be the key swing in his development if he’s to make a push for the claim of top prospect in the class.
