Another guard/wing on this St. James team who really impressed me was Proctor. Not because he went off for 20 points or made a defender touch Earth with a nasty crossover, but simply because he thrived in his role and made high IQ plays in the definition of crunch time that allowed his team to escape with the win. Proctor had my attention early with the way he was attacking in straight-line drives where he either drew fouls or finishing through contact in the air. You could just tell he was playing with a different intention and with a little edge. He blended in from there on out until the last five minutes where the 6-foot-6 senior made some of the best basketball decisions that I’ve seen out of him.

I mentioned above that Carpenter was the hot hand throughout for this squad. As St. James trailed by two with a minute left, Proctor received a swing pass as he stood in the right corner where he absolutely could’ve let it fly. His defender closed out uncontrollably and went for a slight shot fake as Proctor took 1-2 dribbles up toward the right wing. He knew exactly what he was doing as he saw Carpenter running baseline and on his way to fill the corner that Proctor just dribbled out of. Instead of forcing a tough mid range, Proctor drew Carpenter’s defender to halt penetration, turned and hit Carpenter with a scoop pass that he drilled to give St. James the lead. The patience and maturity spoke volumes to me. Petersburg was able to answer the Carpenter three with a bucket of their own to retake the lead and once again, it was Proctor who came through as this time he drove and converted an and-1 opportunity.

Big time stuff from Proctor.

Proctor spent his freshman and sophomore seasons competing in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) with DeMatha Catholic (MD). Last year, he made the move to Long Island Lutheran (NY), gaining valuable national high school and EYBL Scholastic League experience before returning home to join The St. James and head coach Book Richardson.

“Honestly, [I learned] a lot of maturity,” Proctor said of his season in New York. “Like, not being able to call on Mom and Dad all the time, not being able to call on Grandma – I’ve got to do things on my own. So that part, and then being away, not really knowing too many people there, and getting to know a lot of new kids in a different area. It was a great experience.”

The 6-foot-7 Proctor brings perimeter and interior versatility to the Strivers roster, with the athletic mobility to switch defensively across multiple positions and an adaptable inside-out offensive skill set. His addition could be one of the most important for The St. James, and he should get plenty of opportunities to make an impact.

“A lot of it came down to Coach Book,” Proctor explained regarding his decision to return to the DMV. “I took a visit with him while considering a few other programs, but once we met, it became the easiest decision of my life. The fact that it was a homecoming made it even better.”

This past season Proctor made the move from Maryland to Long Island Lutheran. He was a great glue in the rotation, he was terrific defensively, made some big shots and brought a ton of energy. The rising Senior was at the top of my list for New York potential breakouts but he has made another move. Proctor will head back down south and will now attend St. James Academy. His skillset, motor, winning pedigree and versatility should grant him a few quality options when he graduates.

Seizing the opportunity presented by some injuries ahead of him in the rotation, Proctor jumped into the starting lineup and contributed consistently on both ends throughout a blowout win over Wheeler (GA). Known typically as a perimeter shooter and floor-spacer, Proctor showed a renewed sense of aggression looking to attack the rim, both getting out in transition and attacking closeouts in the halfcourt. He had no fear attacking into contact and showed a consistent nose for the ball with seven boards to match his point total. It was an effective two-way performance to help close out what’s been a somewhat quiet junior season for the DMV product.

Proctor plays a valuable role for this LuHi team as he’s expected to provide energy, defensive versatility, and complementary offensive tools to the talented roster surrounding him. A 6-foot-7 wing/forward that plays with an edge, Proctor has long hung his hat in the DMV on his ability to rebound out of his area. This was the case specifically in LuHi’s win over Owasso (OK) where he had his best outing of 15 points, seven rebounds, and two assists in 18 minutes. Offensively he’s effective in the open floor where he can use his athleticism to finish at the rim or draw contact for charity stripe visits. He showed an improved burst off his back foot on attacking closeouts and seeking contact on those drives as well. Similar to his DMV counterpart, Jamaal McKnight, Proctor can boost his value as he continues to improve on his efficiency from deep as that will allow him to pose as a true 3-and-D utility type of wing at the next level.

Proctor is a talented slasher who excels at attacking the rim and creating scoring opportunities. He can handle the ball effectively, allowing him to initiate offense and break down defenses. His ability to change speeds keeps defenders off balance and opens up driving lanes. Proctor’s combination of skill, agility, and court vision makes him a dynamic offensive threat.

-Proctor has impressed this summer as an athletic wing prospect that impacts the game with his energy. The jumper is beginning to fall more consistently and he’s more aggressive attacking closeouts to get to the rim. Still think that he projects as a high-level 3+D wing that can eventually serve as a good connector. Proving that he can play with a consistent motor at both ends of the floor will be the biggest swing skill for this prospect that has carved out a good role in DeMatha’s system.

-Really loved the tenacity and activity levels from Proctor because of how much those traits accentuate his athletic gifts. Proctor collected a really good recovery block by sprinting back into frame to block an attempt around the basket, had an emphatic help side block a few possessions later, and had much crisper defensive rotations in this one. He showed improvements to the perimeter handle and fluidity on his jumpshot with a pullup 3 OTB. Proctor also did a good job of sprinting the floor well in transition, not wasting any time with a straight line drive at the basket to finish with 1-handed spikes that went largely uncontested due to their ferocity. It’s all starting to come together for this talented wing prospect that figures to make a name for himself over the next two weeks.

DeMatha dominated Flint Hill, and I felt like this was a good bounce-back game for Christian Proctor Christian Proctor 6'7" | SF St. James Performance Academy | 2027 VA . He struggled the past few games, but he did a nice job today. Christian knocked down a few threes and had some nice finishes at the rim. Christian finished this one with 18 points in a big DeMatha win.

Christian is poised for a big summer heading into his Junior year. Christian has nice size and is a reliable three-point shooter. Christian is a skilled finisher, and he gives you a lot defensively with his versatility. Christian was as good as anyone on the day and has sky-high potential. He finished with 27 points and 9 rebounds.
