is a player that came into the game shooting around 45% from 3 point range on the season. Despite not scoring any points tonight, he made such an impact in other areas that I wanted to highlight it. He did a good job facilitating and playmaking for his team. He had a few assists, but he should have had more. Multiple times he had a good pass, but his teammates missed the shot. The biggest impact that he had made was his defensive impact. He was constantly fighting through screens and reading pick and rolls well. He played great perimeter defense. There was one possession that he fought through two screens and steal contested a three pointer to force the miss. It was impressive that he was able to get there. There were other times that he played great defense by reading screens and having the effort to get through them. It was a great game for him in regards to his defense and playmaking.

Yearby was a key part of Edmond North Class 6A State Championship team. Going into his junior season, the lanky guard had a bit of a “jack of all trades, master of none” feel to watching his game. He was fundamentally sound across the board, would knock down open jumpers, could get downhill some, get after it on defense, etc. While his game is still well rounded, his floor spacing was critical for the Huskies’ State Title run. And that has continued this spring, proving he’s one of the better shooters in Oklahoma’s Class of 2024.

Continuing the theme of players that can fill it up from deep, Yearby was a flamethrower from beyond the arc in Griffin EYBL Select’s semifinal win on Saturday. That’s a familiar role for him after a Class 6A State Championship with Edmond North. But the longer guard has a little more to his game, with a mid-range game, and an improving game off the bounce. Which should be critical as he steps into a bigger role for his final high school season.

made some noise on the defensive end in this one. He played good on ball defense all game and was solid off of the ball, too. He came away with two blocks in this game. To go along with that, he contributed a little bit on the offensive side with a few baskets and some assists. It was aa great defensive game by him that shut down any plans that the opponents had.

Yearby is an intangibles type of guy. What he provides in a basketball game might not show up in the box score but his energy and defense are something that every college basketball team needs in their program. Offensively he gets in the lane to make good passes to his teammates to either get a bucket or be able to make a play for the next teammate to score a basket. Defensively he knows how to move his feet and beat offensive guys to the spot without fouling. Although he didn’t have to display it much in this contest, he can shoot the ball and handle it as well when he needs to.

It’s hard to not say the rich got richer but here we are. Edmond North was bringing back all five starters and in addition to that,

moved into the district after averaging 16 points per game for Northwest Classen last season. Yearby immediately provides the Huskies another scoring threat on the offensive side of the ball and more depth in the backcourt. And if you had to point to a thing the Huskies were lacking, and it’s a stretch, but the Huskies could have more firepower from their guards. With Yearby now in the fold, it’s going to be interesting to see what the Huskies and head coach Scott Norris do with various lineups throughout the year.
