Duvalier Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Styles is a player that we saw playing during the season and now in Spring ball, and he just appears to be getting better and better. He’s trending upward because of the physical tools, which are difficult to teach, but he’s also an explosive athlete who finishes above the rim, rebounds outside his area, and is impactful defensively. Styles has great timing and instincts, and that can just affect so many shots around the basket. What will take him to the next level and has him really intriguing is his work offensively. He’s starting to look more comfortable attacking downhill and scoring in bunches in the paint. He’s a force. There’s still another level for him skill-wise, and if he reaches that, he could potentially be a top-3 player in the class when it’s all said and done. He’s one of the biggest risers in the class as he jumps into the Top-10.

Styles was one of the most physically dominant freshmen in the gym. His size, length, and strength make him tough to deal with, especially when he’s attacking downhill or working on the block. He has an impressive wingspan and uses that to alter shots at the rim, and he had a few blocks as well. He also showcases his athleticism as he soars for rebounds as well. I like that Styles finished through contact, which you want to see a bit more of; he ran the floor for easy dunks and showed touch in the mid-range. As a screener and rim runner, he was effective, and that will only lead to easy baskets for him. Styles is a high-upside athlete gaining attention, and he’s solidified himself on our radar a bit more.

Styles already plays with varsity strength and presence and they rely on the freshman. He uses his body well inside, finishes plays with soft touch, and consistently runs the floor for easy baskets. He’s putting up 8.2 points and 6.6 rebounds a game coming out of the break. His motor separates him and he creates opportunities instead of waiting for them. He looks comfortable for an underclassmen and his recent 17-point, 14-rebound performance shows his high ceiling. That Palmer team is intriguing and he only adds to it.
