Expert Analysis
Jack Pfeiffer | Prep Hoops Scout
Tremel put on an elite shot making performance in a win on Saturday, showcasing his ability to score from all three levels very effectively. He is a strong 6’1” guard and used his frame to finish through contact around the basket. The sophomore also connected on several pull-up jump shots from three and in the mid-range. Phipps was very effective running in transition, resulting in a few easy baskets with his athleticism and speed.

Phipps is a guy who we enjoy watching in grassroots as he checks off plenty of boxes that you have. He has good size, he’s an assertive scorer, and impacts the game with his activity. He was getting to the mid-range pull-up and efficiently scoring from the low post. He had floaters, jumpers, and took over against smaller defenders and broke big guys down off the dribble for finishes as well. He was also showcasing his playmaking as he got others involved in games as well. We like his decision-making and how he operates with the ball in his hands and want more of it.

Palmer will rely on sophomore Phipps to lead the way in the playoffs. Averaging 11.8 points, he’s a threat around the rim with his attacking style and ability to finish through contact. His quick release makes him tough to guard and as a high percentage three point shooter, he can stretch defenses and swing momentum in an instant. Young and hungry Phipps combines skill and confidence, giving Palmer a versatile scorer who can create his own shot and make big plays when it matters most

Phipps is a young combo guard whose versatility puts him in a great spot to stand out, and now we’re seeing it on display. He’s strung together a solid patch of games, and Palmer is on their longest winning streak of the season. Phipps is a downhill and aggressive guard who wants to get to his spots. He scores in bunches, applies pressure to the defense and remains on the attack. He’s also stepped up as a rebounder and he’s been a much better defender in the new year. I want him to continue to push himself on the defensive end of the court and play with energy, as he can be a difference-maker with his physical capabilities. Excited to see it all come together for him, but he’s off to a better start of the new year.

Phipps is an electric scorer who brings nonstop energy to the perimeter and keeps defenses on their heels. He flies around the floor, plays fast and uses his quickness and athleticism to create scoring chances at all three levels. Whether he’s attacking gaps, knocking down shots, or beating defenders to spots, his motor never slows. He’s backing it up with production too, averaging 14.5 points per game for Palmer and consistently putting pressure on opponents. With his speed, confidence and scoring punch, Phipps is a name rising fast

Phipps is an athletic and physical guard who played with energy and toughness. He handled pressure well, used his body to absorb contact on finishes and made plays at the rim. His effort on both ends and ability to spark his team kept them competitive. With strength, athleticism, and motor, Phipps has the tools to continue building his game but his work defensively is where I feel he shines brightest.

What we know:
What we know about Tremell is that his athleticism and ability to score in the open court is what makes him dangerous. He gets inside of the defense on isolation baskets, makes timely cuts to the rim and is at the basket for his finishes. He also uses the screen on plays to attack in different ways.
What we’d like to see:
I’d like to know how Tremell looks in a setting where he has to prove himself. Right now, he’s No.26 in the class, and I know that he wants to rise. It’s about competing and standing out amongst the top players. Make some defensive stops, slow down some of the top guards, and prove that he belongs with the best of them. This is a showcase that we’re not only looking for scoring but wanting to see what else players bring to the table. This is a great spot to show that he’s capable of doing the little things.

Phipps was able polish the finer details of his game this summer staying true to his offensive identity while expanding his defensive impact. He showed improved composure with the ball in his hands, creating space off the dribble and finding more ways to score from different spots on the floor. His scoring versatility stood out, whether finishing at the rim, pulling up in the midrange, or stretching the defense. With his dynamic offensive presence and the ability to lock in on defense, Phipps is positioned to take on a bigger role this season and be a real two way difference maker

Tremell Phipps Jr. is a dynamic, athletic guard who thrives in transition and lives in the paint. He uses a quick first step to blow by defenders and finish creatively at the rim. At Liberty, he served as an offensive spark off the bench, while also showing flashes of being a lockdown defender. For L.O.B. Elite , he’s embraced a bigger role. He attacks in isolation, creates mismatches, and applies constant pressure on both ends. Phipps competes with intensity, plays at the rim, and brings a strong two-way presence. He’s having a standout summer and is poised for a breakout sophomore campaign.
