Expert Analysis
Duvalier Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Lambert had high expectations heading into the season as one of the top underclassmen in the entire state, and the offense was going to be centered around him, and at times he showed signs of dominance. When he’s locked in, he’s elite, and teams have a difficult time bottling him up. He shows two-way dominance and saw him play in a couple of games this year when he looked like the top player on the floor, like his game earlier in the year against Denver East, where he had a career-high 34 points. When he’s aggressive, he’s at his best, and his team certainly benefits when he’s on the floor. We’re curious to see how his game continues to grow as everyone else’s game evolves around him, but with a year of putting up 19 points and 5.9 rebounds a game, it’s easy to see why he’s one of the top players in the state.

Lambert looked fantastic all weekend, combining speed with control to make a big impact. He attacked the basket with purpose, using his quickness to get past defenders and finish through contact. In transition he was deadly, consistently getting to his spots and forcing defenses to react quickly. Lambert’s ability to push the pace and create chaos for opponents made him a constant threat every time he touched the ball. He balanced aggression with poise, making smart reads while still looking to score. Lambert’s combination of speed, control and finishing ability made him one of the most explosive and impactful players of the weekend

Lambert was on another level for Overland, putting on a show with 32 points, multiple highlight reel dunks, and unstoppable plays at the rim. Defensively he was a lockdown force, making life difficult for anyone who tried to score. From the moment he stepped on the floor, he had that locked in, take over look. His handles were crisp, his footwork sharp and once he got going toward the basket, there was no stopping him. Lambert’s complete dominance on both ends made him the game’s clear standout

Lambert is one of the top two-way options in the conference and a Top-5 on-ball defender in the entire state in my humble opinion, despite only being a sophomore. This feels like the year everything clicks for him and he comes out of his shell. He’ll be the go-to scorer, rebounder, and physical presence who gets wherever he wants, but he has to take it. As the conference’s top player, expectations are heavy, but he should be ready to answer them and make a leap. This is the year for him.

Lambert lit up the floor with his shooting ability and high basketball IQ. His range was impressive and with a lightning quick release, he didn’t need much space to get his shot off. Beyond his scoring what really stood out was his decision making with the ball. He was consistently making the right play, whether it was taking the open shot, moving the ball or setting up a teammate for a better look. Lambert’s ability to combine smart, efficient play with his natural scoring talent made him one of the most reliable and exciting players on the court. He brought energy every possession and proved he can be trusted to impact the game in big moments

What we know:
We know that Lambert is one of the best on-ball defenders in the state and is a two-way star in the making. We just want to see that at the varsity level as well. There are not many players in the state with his upside, as he has great size, cannot be denied as he gets inside of the paint and finishes above the rim, and also he can shoot it as well. This is going to be a big year for him, and this will be a chance for the freshman and sophomore classes to see what it looks like to dominate on both sides of the court. This is also an opportunity for him to push himself to be that type of player.
What we’d like to see:
What I want to see for him is for him to see another player start getting going, and he decides to switch onto them and cut it off. I truly do think that Lambert is a top-3 on-ball defender regardless of class in the entire state. He uses his size and athleticism to make things difficult for guards, but can also defend bigger players as well. He turns that into scoring opportunities the other way, and in a showcase, everyone is gunning for the top player in the class. There’s a reason that he’s the No.2 player in the class. I want him to look comfortable, not let the game come to him but rather take it. Lambert is top-dog at the event; this is a chance to showcase exactly why.

Lambert gets a ton of credit for his ability to score the ball, but he might be a top-three on-ball defender in the state; he’s that good. He’s long, gritty, and takes pride in making life miserable for opposing guards. Offensively, he used his athleticism to get downhill and finish through contact. He got layup after layup. When he decides he’s going to score, good luck stopping him. Tru Colorado played up in 17s and still won it all, and Lambert was a major reason why.

brings a mature, well-rounded game that’s beyond his age. He plays with pace, power, and a relentless motor. Whether it’s slashing downhill, attacking in transition, or locking up defensively, Lambert imposes his will. He’s explosive off the bounce, finishes with authority, and consistently impacts the game without needing the ball in his hands. As a freshman, he looked comfortable on varsity. In grassroots, he’s been dominant. He scores at all three levels and shows he can be the go-to guy. With his athleticism, motor, and polish, Lambert is a two-way threat who’s just scratching the surface. Don’t be surprised if he finishes even higher by next cycle as he comes in as the No.3 player in the class.

provided a spark for the gritty Overland program, which prides itself on intensity and toughness. Standing at 6’3 with long arms and a wiry frame, Lambert showed glimpses of the kind of impact player he could become. He averaged 5.6 points and nearly three rebounds per game, mainly coming off the bench, but his contributions often exceeded the stat sheet. Lambert understands his role, doesn’t try to do too much, and plays with purpose. His game is still raw, but the foundation is there: high motor, defensive awareness, and the ability to swing momentum with hustle plays. What separates him is his poise; he doesn’t chase highlights, he makes the right plays, and those highlights just come. As he continues to add polish to his offensive game and grows into his body, Lambert has a real shot to elevate his role next season. He’s the kind of player who, once it clicks, becomes a problem, and we’re seeing that with a stellar start to grassroots.

Lambert’s size, skill, and relative quickness makes the guard an intriguing name within this class. Especially skilled finishing around the basket, he maximizes his hangtime against opposing contests. Throughout the summer, he showed upside scoring from all three levels, although he has been at his best within the mid-range. Given how quick his first step already is, he finds ways to pressure the rim, comfortable making quick reads against incoming help. Defensively, Lambert should hold his own, particularly as he adds strength in the coming years.
