Aiken is looking sharp in the summer and Washington is the guy who makes the offense work for their group. Way too quick for anybody on the opposition to stay in front of, Washington was getting to the rim whenever he wanted to on Saturday afternoon. Aiken can also turn up the defensive pressure and Washington helped spark a 6-0 run where the opposition never even crossed halfcourt. College coaches left impressed with Washington as he picked up his first Division I offer to South Carolina State this weekend.
A big weekend for Washington who scored 18 points in a win over Game Elite and 17 points in a win over Breakaway. Washington is lightning quick at the point of attack and the CMAC Red offensive player of the year found success using that quickness on the ball to get by his primary defender and make plays as a scorer or playmaker for his teammates. When Washington is knocking down shots from the outside he has the ability to put up points in a hurry. If Washington can prevent being blocked at the rim by bigger rim protectors, then his efficiency will improve as he can generate easy looks with his on-ball ability. Name for scholarship programs to check out during the June live periods.
Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB
17 U went 3-0 this weekend with wins over Bates Fundamentals
, The Family and Hawks Elite MHC. I caught their win over The Family and left extremely impressed with Washington’s performance. His high school coach is an assistant with Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB
and Washington played with a lot of confidence this weekend. A key swing skill for Washington will be his perimeter shooting off the catch, he knocked in a pair and banked in a third against The Family. Add in the fact that Washington can get where he needs to go off the dribble to collapse the defense and find open shooters and he can create a lot of offense by himself. The two keys for Washington at the circuit level will be playing tough defensively at his size and taking care of the basketball against pressure, if he can do both of those things he can help Midwest Basketball Club 3SSB
compete against the best on the Adidas circuit.
Washington had an impressive offensive performance for an Aiken squad who cruised to a district title, just one year after they made the state title game. Washington was living in the paint all game, getting downhill off the dribble and consistently drawing fouls. Washington shot as many free throws as Troy’s entire team in the game! I was impressed with Washington’s ability to hang in the air and finish at the rim around shot contests. If Aiken is going to win the region, they’ll need Washington to find the range on his jumper more consistently than he did today.
One of the quickest lead guards in the state, Washington has thrived under new Cincinnati Aiken Head Coach Sean Davis this season as the Falcons are averaging over 93 points per game this season. Washington is scoring over 20 points per game and dropping 11.5 assists per contest. If he starts knocking down 3-point shots at a higher percentage, his scoring numbers could spike from where they are right now.
One of the top scorers in the greater Cincinnati area, Washington is currently leading the Miami Valley Conference in scoring according to their official website. An undersized guard who is a blur on the court and able to get a bucket, Washington is a prospect I’ll be keeping my eyes on to see how he fills out and if he grows. He’s already one of the most productive scoring guards in the area and leaps in other areas will take his game to the next level.
Washington had been lighting up the scoreboard early in the season, entering the game averaging over 26 points per game. He was held below 24 points for the first time all season on Friday night but I was still impressed with the scoring ability of Washington. A point guard who is really quick on the ball, Washington is a guy you need to get a body in front of in transition. Transition was also where Washington made his most impressive passes of the night. More of a volume scorer than anything from the outside, Washington is shooting 30% from downtown this year. A name I’ll be tracking in Cincinnati, it’ll be interesting to see Washington at the grassroots level as well this spring.
