Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Smith has been a consistent factor since arriving at ANC as a repeat sophomore and will look to lead the way as a senior in pursuit of a Friends League three-peat. A skilled inside-out presence up front, Smith is more of a natural post but has done well to expand his game over the years while incorporating a dangerous jump shot and dribble-drive game. He also stood out this summer by being in the best shape of his life, having shed significant baby fat which paid dividends in his quickness and explosiveness. Injuries have been the main thing standing in the way of Smith firmly establishing himself on the recruiting trail, but if he can stay healthy while leading ANC this winter then he should become a hot name among D1 programs looking for skill in the frontcourt late in the recruiting cycle.

Coming off an AAU run in which he struggled finding opportunity to fully showcase his abilities, Smith took full advantage of the June periods with his high school program, capping the month with another well-rounded and productive effort to further boost his stock in the eyes of D1 coaches. A skilled and versatile forward, Smith is in the best shape of his life, having stretched a bit and clearly leaned out across his frame, allowing him to fully weaponize his diverse skillset out to the perimeter. Still able to punish mismatches in the post, he now looks more comfortable taking opponents off the dribble and is flowing into perimeter jumpers more smoothly. His inside-out attack at his size make it easy to see why low and mid-major coaches have been coming out in droves to see Smith throughout the month.

Over his last three games in January, Smith is stuffing the stat book for 21 points and 12 rebounds per contest. The highlight of that three-game stretch was his 21 points and 16 rebounds effort versus national power Westtown School. Smith operates as a high IQ traditional power forward who produces points in the paint and from the high post. He is an effective pick-n-roll player and his face up game is extremely smooth. Plus, Smith crashes the offensive glass for put backs. Smith possesses decent speed and agility. Thus, he will run the floor for secondary break buckets. His 3-point shot is a developing weapon. On defense Smith is a rebounding force and provides solid rim protection.

A great deal of praise in showered on the talented guards and wings that fill the ANC lineup. But over the summer Smith posted a breakout stretch of play and he is going to be major contributor for ANC this season. He is a traditional power forward with the ability to score from the elbows with a mid-range jumper or a two-dribble attack on the rim. Additionally, Smith can put points on the board via quick post ups from which he can finish over either shoulder. He is a plus rebounder at both ends and has a knack for turning offensive rebounds into buckets. Smith is an underrated passer who delivers creative, well-timed dimes to teammates.
