Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Archibald had a decent first half, but he completely erupted towards the end of the game and scored tons of points in the last five minutes to bring Hotchkiss home. He has nice passing vision—especially for his size—but he has athleticism and length for impressive finishes at the rim and is a good outside shooter. He can make shots off the bounce and on the move, and he has a good pace and patience to his attacks. Archibald had a phenomenal year but has even more room to grow, and I would be shocked if he doesn’t end up racking up a good number of D1 offers.

Archbold could quickly become a household name in the region with his high motor and penchant for making plays around the rim. The Hotchkiss School forward is a plus athlete with a physically developed 6’8″ frame and isn’t afraid to mix it up physically in the paint. He’s got some skill with the ball in his hands and has inside-out versatility as a scorer, showing the ability to take smaller defenders into the paint and stretch bigger ones out to the perimeter. He runs the floor well in transition, plays with a high motor on the defensive glass, and can really protect the rim out of the help position. A stock riser this summer, he’s turned into a Division I prospect and currently holds offers from Holy Cross and Le Moyne.

Archbold was one of the more versatile wing/forwards in the 16u division at the Invitational, as he would display the skill set and moves to score from the perimeter, along with the moves and body control to score in the post. The 6-foot-8 Archbold had an impressive showing in a tough loss to Compton Magic 16s in pool play, using his athleticism and strong build to control the rebounds, is a quick leaper to get second and third chance putbacks with nice touch around the basket, and the timing to alter shots in the paint, as well as the footwork and quickness to alter shots on close outs or switches onto perimeter players. Offensively, Archbold has enough handle to create off the dribble, gets good lift with the ability to connect through contact on the mid-range jumper, and displayed nice moves to evade his defender for shots around the basket, using the spin move to get by his opponent for open looks in the post. Archbold has good court vision and handles to push the ball off the glass and get out in transition, or outlet passes up-court for easy lay-ups or dunks.
