McGrath, a forward out of Thayer Academy in Massachusetts, is one of the early standouts in this class. At 6’7″, he combines a high level of skill with a physically impressive frame and advanced athleticism. He can take over games with his ability to score the basketball, particularly around the rim, but has done a nice job of improving his perimeter game over the last 12 months. He’s bigger and stonger than most wings and quicker and more agile than most bigs, a combination that allows him to operate as a mis-match nightmare on the offensive end of the floor. Defensively, he has good instincts as a rim protector and can really rebound the basketball.

McGrath had one of the more impressive freshman seasons in recent memory last winter and will look to do it again after transferring and reclassifying this summer. The Thayer Academy forward has been terrific for Ireland’s U16MNT team during the FIBA Youth EuroBasket tournament, including one game of 28 points and 17 rebounds. The lefty is pushing 6’8″, is a terrific athlete, and plays with an aggressive mindset on the offensive end of the floor. He’s a strong rebounder that has the ability to take the ball off the rim and intiate the break himself. He gets downhill off the bounce and is particularly effective with the ball in his hands at the top of the key, where he can go get his own or draw double teams and kick it out to shooters.

McGrath is a 6’6″ forward out of Thayer Academy. The 2029 prospect made a name for himself last winter in the MIAA and will look to do the same this season in the NEPSAC. At 6’6″, he has a good basketball build, with plus length, impressive athleticism, and wiry strength. The lefty can play with his back to the basket or as a face up forward, operating from the low block all the way out to the perimeter. He knocks down mid-range jumpers, attacks closeouts off the bounce, and even hits catch and shoot threes. He’s a high level rebounder defensively that can guard a variety of positions.

Aidan McGrath Aidan McGrath 6'6" | PF Thayer Academy | 2029 State New E has a high potential at his young age. He showed off his scoring chops by hitting shots off the dribble from the mid range and hitting threes off the catch. He looked good as driver with a head of steam and guarded effectively down low.

McGrath impressed with his offensive expanded offensive repertoire. He has good size and length. He allowed himself to be a mismatch nightmare. He was a frequent floor spacer and shoots a clean ball. He also showed that he can find others for scoring chances of their own. McGrath ran the floor with ease in transition. He continues to get better with time and am excited to see his development.

McGrath, who will play his high school basketball at North Quincy, is another prospect that impressed at a variety of events and showcases this summer and fall. Standing 6’6″ with long arms, McGrath is already an impressive athlete that has a frame that looks like its ready to compete at the varsity level from Day 1. He’s capable of playing on the perimeter or in the post and has a level of above the rim athleticism that’s rare in the class of 2028. He’s strong off the bounce, finishes with authority at the rim, and has even proven capable of making shots on the move from behind the arc. Defensively, he’s a big time rim protector that controls the glass and has the mobility to switch onto the perimeter out of ball screens. He has a chance to be on of the top first years in the MIAA and could see his stock rise significantly come the spring.
