Henderson Collegiate over River Mill Academy 87-23. Javonte Waverly led the way with 21 points and six rebounds. Kalib Matthews posted nine points, eight assists and five rebounds as well. They got an easy victory at home but this Thursday, they’ll face Pender High School who are led by Jajuan Carr and Jakwon Moore.
Pender got a 71-46 victory over Camden to advance to their second-round matchup against Henderson Collegiate. Sophomore forward Jakwon Moore led the way with a monster game with 32 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks. Unsigned senior Asad Johnson put up 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Jajuan Carr finished with 11 points and six rebounds. They’ll look to play spoiler on the road against the Pride.
The Granville Central Panthers got a convincing victory over Perquimans 79-58 to open the first round. Terence Harcum Jr. led the way with 32 points, 11 rebounds and five steals to kickoff the start of the tournament. When he’s locked in, this group is a force to be reckoned with. They’ll face Weldon at home on Thursday.
The South Granville Vikings made quick work of Croatan in the opening round of the 2A State Playoffs with a 74-32 victory. Bobby Pettiford Jr. finished with 16 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and six steals while Kobe Jones stole the show with a number of dunks to go along with 17 points and five rebounds in their big win. They’ll face Carrboro on Thursday night.
3A/4A
The Panther Creek Catamounts got an 88-65 win over South View to advance to the second round of the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs, where No. 8 seed Millbrook awaits after a bye. Armon Muldrew, Daylen Berry, David Butners and Dylan Drinkwater have a chance to play spoiler on the road against a tough Wildcats squad.
The Parkland Mustangs kept their season intact despite traveling to West Rowan in their opening round game, securing a 63-50 win led by Camian Shell. Shell finished with 21 points, 11 steals and six assists while Omari Bolden put up 20 points and four rebounds. Parkland will face Cox Mill on the road on Thursday.
B.J. Freeman posted a triple-double (20 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists) for the Clayton Comets in their 84-57 victory over Harnett Central. The Comets are a team that gets a lot of production out of Freeman and when they do, the result typically is a big win. Next up for them: Northern Nash on Thursday.
Page got a big win on the road over Myers Park 83-58 to move on to the second round of the 4A State Playoffs. Jason Sellars finished with a double-double (22 points, 15 rebounds) while Jaden Ellis put up 18 points and eight assists. They’ll look to play road spoiler again on Thursday against Olympic High School.
