Ryan Lewis is one of the guys who has really stepped things up with his play for the Cavaliers. The tough 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior wing recently stepped up into the spotlight at the MLK Invitational on Monday as Clackamas knocked off Crater in a revenge matchup from the Les Schwab Invitational.
“We’ve been going over film a lot and we had some good plays,” Lewis said. “We’ve been playing really good as a team. I’ve been struggling with my shot but I felt confident and wanted to knock down some threes. It was good to get this win.”
In the game against the Comets, Lewis contributed with 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting, 2-for-4 from three-point range. A gritty competitor, he was solid on the boards with 8 – something that’s a theme for him. Lewis has a real nose for the basketball, especially on the offensive glass where at the Les Schwab Invitational he routinely crashed the boards and got a number of put-backs. A solid shooter from distance, he is continuing to work on expanding his game.
“I want to get better with my dribbling,” Lewis said. “I feel like if I can take it strong to the hoop more I can get some dunks and stuff and that would be nice.”
Since Lewis is just getting on the radar, there hasn’t been any college interest thus far but he’s definitely aiming to play at the next level. While he’s keeping all of his options open, Pac-12 schools such as Oregon and Oregon State are the highest goals. “I don’t want to go too far from home,” Lewis said.
The win over Crater begins a tough stretch this week as the first place Cavaliers return to Mt. Hood Conference play with games on Wednesday and Friday. “I feel like we can improve,” Lewis said. “We have two more touch matchups with Barlow and Gresham and we have to shut down their players.”
