Jaden Springer Jaden Springer 6'4" | SG IMG Academy | 2020 State #25 Nation FL (IMG)
2020 6’4″ Tennessee commit Jaden Springer Jaden Springer 6'4" | SG IMG Academy | 2020 State #25 Nation FL was in full attack mode as he was relentless inside finishing with a team-high 30 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field in a 13-point win over Archbishop Stepinac. This was the best I’ve seen Springer play in a while, he was simply too much for the Archbishop Stepinac defense with his overall strength in his legs and upper body. He made some tough buckets with guys all over him in the paint and he thrived in that role.
Paolo Banchero Paolo Banchero 6'10" | PF O'Dea | 2021 State #3 Nation WA (O’Dea)
Two nights in a row, 2021 6’10” forward Paolo Banchero Paolo Banchero 6'10" | PF O'Dea | 2021 State #3 Nation WA was flat out good for Washington O’Dea. He recorded 28 points and was doing it by going to the rim and scoring over and over while shooting the mid-range with confidence. Banchero is a big, strong and unselfish player who can do just about anything on the floor. He runs the offense, handles the rock and creates for his teammates to knock down triples. He hit a contested triple of his own with under a minute left to cut the deficit to five points.
Scottie Barnes Scottie Barnes 6'8" | SF Montverde Academy | 2020 State #12 Nation FL & Cade Cunningham Cade Cunningham 6'7" | SF Montverde Academy | 2020 State #2 Nation FL (Montverde)
Montverde earned a well balanced performance from five players who all reached double digits. Most impressively, 2020 6’7″ guard Cade Cunningham Cade Cunningham 6'7" | SF Montverde Academy | 2020 State #2 Nation FL (Oklahoma State commit) had a nice stat line of 14 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. He simply had the offense in full command and was the alpha for his group as a passer and facilitator. 2020 6’8″ forward Scottie Barnes Scottie Barnes 6'8" | SF Montverde Academy | 2020 State #12 Nation FL (FSU commit) did his usual, filling up the box score with an all-around performance (16 points, eight rebounds and three assists). Other notable scorers for Montverde: 2020 6’10” North Carolina commit Day’Ron Sharpe Day’Ron Sharpe 6'10" | PF Montverde | 2020 State #31 Nation FL (16 points, 11 rebounds), 2022 6’5″ guard Dariq Whitehead Dariq Whitehead 6'5" | SF Montverde Academy | 2022 State #5 Nation FL (12 points) and 2022 6’8″ forward Caleb Houstan Caleb Houstan 6'8" | SF Montverde Academy | 2021 State #6 Nation FL (11 points).
RJ Davis & Adrian Griffin (Archbishop Stepinac)
Scoring 20 points each, 2020 duo RJ Davis and Adrian Griffin made the game interesting when it mattered most. In fact, Archbishop Stepinac was down just three points midway through the fourth quarter. Davis, a 6’1″ North Carolina commit was 5-of-11 from deep and fought all night long while also recording five steals and four assists. Davis is a beyond shifty and helps everyone around him be better. As for Griffin, the 6’7″ Duke commit is a physical specimen who wasn’t shooting at a high clip but also had a no-quit attitude and kept working. He is a grown man.
Myles Stute Myles Stute 6'6" | SF Gonzaga | 2020 State #182 Nation MD (Gonzaga)
2020 6’7″ Vanderbilt commit Myles Stute Myles Stute 6'6" | SF Gonzaga | 2020 State #182 Nation MD and Washington D.C. Gonzaga made its City of Palms debut on Friday night against O’Dea. Stute had an eye-opening first half with 15 points on 6-of-9 in just over 15 minutes on the floor. He ended the outing with 22 points. The energy that Stute runs with is fun to watch as he is constantly putting his body on the line and getting into the paint. Stute is going to be a difference-maker at the next level with his mix of length and elusiveness. 2020 6’2″ guard Chuck Harris Chuck Harris 6'1" | PG Gonzaga | 2020 State #152 Nation MD added 18 points with a strong second half included.
Ty Berry Ty Berry 6'2" | PG Sunrise Christian | 2020 State #130 Nation KS & Kendall Brown Kendall Brown 6'8" | SF Sunrise Christian | 2021 #9 Nation KS (Sunrise Christian)
Both netting 16 points, 2020 6’3″ guard Ty Berry Ty Berry 6'2" | PG Sunrise Christian | 2020 State #130 Nation KS and 2021 6’7″ forward Kendall Brown Kendall Brown 6'8" | SF Sunrise Christian | 2021 #9 Nation KS were both really good for Sunrise Christian. Berry had his jumper working, shooting 5-of-11 from the field and 4-of-7 from deep, Berry was playing hard and leading the charge all game long. Brown had some high flying dunks late in the game and was efficient, shooting 7-of-12 from the field while also grabbing eight rebounds.
Jahmal Banks Jahmal Banks 6'4" | SF St. Frances Academy | 2020 State #185 Nation MD (St. Frances)
2020 6’4″ forward Jahmal Banks Jahmal Banks 6'4" | SF St. Frances Academy | 2020 State #185 Nation MD was 6-of-12 from the field with 16 points. In a clear cut loss to Sunrise Christian, he brought the most to his side. Banks was active, moving around well and simply played with a high basketball IQ and absolute confidence.
Tyler Beard (Whitney Young)
For Whitney Young, it was an uphill battle all game against No. 1 ranked Montverde. However, I really liked the effort from 2020 6’3″ guard Tyler Beard who had a team-best 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. He was getting into soft spots inside and was taking intelligent shots. I like his mix of strength, speed and playmaking ability. Other double digit scorers for the Dolphins: 2020 6’4″ Duke commit DJ Steward DJ Steward 6'2" | PG Whitney Young | 2020 State #22 Nation IL (14 points), 2020 6’8″ forward Sangolay Njie Sangolay Njie 6'6" | PF Whitney Young | 2020 State IL (12 points) and 2021 6’2″ guard Jaeshon Thomas (11 points).
