Mason Lomax (2020 Sprague) – As he did the previous week at Portland State Elite camp, Lomax largely played off the basketball so the majority of his damage came in transition. The 6-foot-2 combo guard certainly got up and down the court in a hurry and was able to finish at the cup in a variety of ways with both hands. The rising senior also shot the ball fairly well in knocking down some open threes.
Joe MaQatish (2021 Santiam Christian) – There’s no question that the biggest thing that MaQatish brings to the table is his massive size. But at 6-foot-9 he’s not just a bull in a china shop – he moved fairly well to spots and played largely under control. MaQatish was able to create and get shots but the lefty had some trouble finishing as he often was a bit too forceful with his release.
James Moore (2020 Blanchet Catholic) – We hadn’t seen Moore previously and while he didn’t necessarily pop out by any means, that didn’t mean he didn’t make an impression. The word “solid” came to mind with the play of the 6-foot-3 guard as he blended in well, showed a good feel for the game, and took advantage of opportunities when they presented themselves on the offensive end.
Samaje Morgan (2022 Churchill) – By the end of the day we were pretty convinced that Morgan is the quickest player in the state. The 5-foot-8 point guard simply blew by defenders and got to the hoop whenever he wanted to and this was extremely evident in the one-on-one battles. The buckets were a little tougher to come by in scrimmage play but Morgan made a few and sank a couple of jumpers for good measure.
Colton Young (2020 West Linn) – We honestly didn’t remember Young from West Linn’s team last year but he plays anything like how he did at camp the combo guard will get some time this year for the Lions. The 6-foot-1 lefty guard spotted up and knocked down threes but also created off the dribble a bit. There’s no question he needs to get physically stronger but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him be a shooter off the bench.
