There was a good amount of legitimate college prospects at this event, ranging levels all across the board. That being said, here are the five best 17u players in the games that I saw at each position. I am basing this off of position, performance and potential as a college prospect.
Hustle Region All Tourney Team:
1) 2020 6’1 PG Ricky Lujan (New Mexico D1 Ambassadors) – The best point guard in the event when you talk about all around game and helping his team make it to the championship game. Ricky is a solid athlete, good ball handler and above average shooter. He also competes on the defensive end and can battle for boards at times as well. I like Ricky’s basketball IQ and how he doesn’t get too sped up. Ricky proved himself to be a legitimate Division 1 prospect or very good D2 player if he chooses to take one of his 5 offers at that level. *Feature image
2) 2020 6’5 SG Owen Koonce (Colorado Titans) – One of the best shooters in the entire event and standout player throughout. The best player on the best team is deserving of an all tourney nod. Owen has a strong frame, runs the floor hard and has some crafty footwork to help him get his shot off. It’s uncertain if he will play at the D1 or D2 level, but he can flat out play either way!
3) 2021 6’7 F Fallou Cisse (California Select Black) – Fallou was an automatic standout player from start to finish, leading his team to the final four. He has the spring and length to really impact the game on both sides of the floor. HIs skill set is definitely coming around and his ceiling is pretty high. Fresno State and other D1 schools are involved in his recruitment, but he has some time to develop and make a decision.
4) 2021 6’7 F Jaden Brownell (Utah Premier National White) – Skilled forward player that is best at the 4 position. After watching Jaden play multiple games, I came to the conclusion that he is a Division 1 recruitable player. He is a true pick and pop 4-man and he can finish with either hand around the basket. His iso game off the bounce is a work in progress, but it is clear that he is expanding on his all around game, which will suit him well in college.
5) 2020 6’8 F/C Pete Boyle (Colorado Titans) – A consistent difference maker in the tourney with his length, shot altering ability and his decent skill set on the offensive end. Boyle is far from a finished product, but he was a large part of his team blowing every team out until the championship game and he will only get better with time.
