Continue ReadingSince the last rankings update in March, we have had some major movements up the rankings boards, including some players who are new to the rankings altogether. This update comes after some players have had massive AAU seasons and “summer ball” in June with their high school teams. Multiple members of the class now hold D1 offers and others have shown they are worthy of those honors soon. Here’s a look at the best point guards in our 2021 Rankings.
Zion Harmon Zion Harmon 5'10" | PG Marshall County | 2021 State #52 Nation KY , Marshall County – Zion is a nationally ranked recruit regardless of what ranking service you look at. He’s undersized at 5’10 but has a great handle and can shoot the ball well. He really only struggles with scoring against length but otherwise his offensive package is full of tool and he is an excellent passer whose skills distributing the ball are probably overlooked more than they should be. Harmon already has multiple high major offers and should end up at that level in college.
Jaden Rogers Jaden Rogers 6'1" | PG Fern Creek | 2021 State KY , Fern Creek – Jaden is a type of lead guard who can create his own offense or get open looks for teammates off his drive and kick. Rogers is about 6’2 now and capable of finishing through traffic with an advanced layup set. He’s still improving his catch and shoot jumper but playing with the ball in his hands so much, he doesn’t see a ton of chances to catch and shoot. Already holding a D1 offer, expect Rogers to wind up a mid major or better point guard.
JaQuais Franklin JaQuais Franklin 6'1" | PG Elizabethtown | 2021 State KY , Elizabethtown – Another Junior holding a D1 offer, Franklin is more of a scoring point guard who is looking to get downhill and get to the rim. JaQuais is a slasher who uses his athleticism to get to the rim as well as keep opposing point guards in front of him. Franklin has been a two sport star for the last two years and the toughness he gets from playing football definitely helps him on the basketball court. He could get E-Town back to Rupp Arena this season.
Kale Gaither Kale Gaither 5'10" | PG Madisonville-North Hopkins | 2022 State KY , Union County – Gaither is one of the better Juniors in the western part of the state. He can really score the ball (and has to for his high school team to win). Kale is a shifty driver who has range out past the three point line. If he grew a couple of inches, Gaither would be a much more highly regarded recruit but he does project well to the next level as a scoring point guard.
KJ Crump KJ Crump 5'8" | PG University Heights | 2021 State KY , University Heights – KJ is another smaller guard but is opposite from Gaither in the sense that he is looking to execute an offense first and create for his teammates as a drive and kick floor general. After battling back from injury, Crump had a solid July playing for Manimal Elite and should be a big part of their success next season on the Adidas Gauntlet. There may not be a better pure floor general in Kentucky’s Junior class than KJ.
Other Names to Know:
Conner Cooper Conner Cooper 6'0" | CG Bowling Green | 2021 State KY , Bowling Green – Conner had an impressive summer for Bowling Green. A good athlete, Cooper will have to decide between basketball or football in college.
Jaylen Fairman Jaylen Fairman 5'11" | PG Jeffersontown | 2021 IN , Jeffersontown – Recently arrived in Kentucky from Indiana, Fairman is a name to watch in Louisville this season.
Q’Daryius McHenry, Ohio County – Another two sport star, McHenry missed July after knee surgery but is almost impossible to keep out of the lane when he wants to get there.
Nash Divine Nash Divine 6'0" | PG Muhlenberg County | 2021 State KY , Muhlenberg County – Nash spent his summer playing up a level on 17u and that should pay dividends as he will be the go to scorer for the Mustangs this season.
Jeremiah Belton Jeremiah Belton 5'10" | PG LaRue County | 2021 State KY , LaRue County – A pass first player capable of guarding multiple positions, Belton will have an expanded role on offense as a Junior for LaRue County.
