Here are the rising Seniors who have boosted their stock in my eyes over the course of the month.
Amirion Joyce Amirion Joyce 6'1" | PG Paducah Tilghman | 2020 State KY , Bourbon County – Joyce returned from a year in Paducah looking like a different player. Amirion still has to improve his perimeter shooting but he did look good making several 3s in the championship game at the Mack, Miller, Lofton event against Henry Clay. There aren’t many guards better at getting downhill against a defense and when he starts making his free throws, Joyce can put up some big scoring numbers.
Marques Warrick Marques Warrick 6'3" | SG Henry Clay | 2020 State #365 Nation KY , Henry Clay – Ques has had a great month and earned a new offer from Kent State this week as a result of his play at Collins last weekend. Warrick has mastered the right hand dribble into a step back move and shot the ball at a high percentage all month. He could ultimately be a point guard at the next level but that remains to be seen. Regardless of which position he plays, he is a big time scorer.
JJ Traynor JJ Traynor 6'8" | PF Bardstown | 2020 State #223 Nation KY , Bardstown – Blessed with more length and athleticism than your stereotypical Kentucky kid, JJ has earned offers from Ball State and NKU in the last couple of months. Strictly off of college potential, Traynor is a top 2-3 player in Kentucky and continues to improve and add to his game.
Howard Fleming Howard Fleming 6'5" | SG Male | 2020 State KY , Male – After missing a lot of his Junior season with a recurring shoulder injury, Howard has had a huge June. His month culminated with a big weekend at the Titans/Rockets Invitational and earned two offers over the last week. Assuming he continues to play at that high level in July, Howard should get several more offers in the next month.
Dre Boyd Dre Boyd 6'4" | SG Warren Central | 2020 State KY , Warren Central – Boyd just plays so hard that even when he makes mistakes, he works even harder to make up for those mistakes. Dre got his first offer from Georgetown College this past week and has the build and athleticism to play D1. Coach Will Unseld tells me that Boyd will be playing point guard as a Senior and that should help keep his stock trending up with colleges.
Joe Benton Joe Benton 5'10" | PG Estill County | 2020 State KY , Estill County – Before June, I hadn’t see Joe Benton Joe Benton 5'10" | PG Estill County | 2020 State KY since he was playing 15u with the Pulaski Thunder. He was about 5’8 and skinny. Now 6’2 and strong, Joe could be a legitimate D1 or D2 recruit for basketball. He prefers to play golf and sees that as his path in college, but Benton was super impressive at Georgetown College at the start of the month.
