The strong 6-foot-2 combo guard keeps on putting in maximum effort for Grant this season, filling up the stat sheet all over the place while helping the Generals in their 6A title defense. While Grant dropped the recent rematch with Jefferson, Rankin has helped pick up the pieces – all while processing what’s ahead for him at the next level.
In Grant’s first game since the loss to Jefferson, Rankin chipped in with eight points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists in a victory over Benson on the road. It was another game where his outside shot just wasn’t falling, but what makes Rankin tough is he keeps on churning, contributing on the floor in other ways than just scoring. “I’m trying to do whatever it takes for us to win, not only in one category,” Rankin said.
Rankin continues to hope that his all-around play materializes into some college scholarship options. Previously he was honed in on four-year schools, and he continues to keep in touch with the likes of Chaminade and Central Washington. But Rankin has also started looking into the junior college route and specifically named Eastern Arizona, Central Wyoming, and Casper (WY) as some of the two-year programs he’s started talking to.
“I’m keeping my options open and I’ll pick where I’m going at the end of the season,” Rankin said. “I’ll go on some trips to see what’s good.”
Another long run in the post-season will certainly help. All Rankin and his teammates can do is keep on chugging. “We’re trying to move forward and not stay in the past,” Rankin said. “We’re taking it game by game and keep winning on our way to the Chiles Center. Keep on gaining more and more each game and not stay in the past.”
Rankin currently ranks as the #9 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2019 rankings.
