Prospect Spotlight: Marques Warrick (2020)
Henry Clay is probably the biggest threat to Scott County in the 11th region. For the Blue Devils to knock off the Cardinals, Junior Marques Warrick will have to be the best player on the floor. And he’s capable of reaching that level. Coming off a good AAU summer and visits to several campuses for elite camps, Warrick has interest from EKU, NKU, Morehead State, UAB, Evansville, Liberty, Lehigh, VMI, Furman and New Orleans but is still hungry for his first college offer. In order to earn those offers, Ques has been working hard. “In the off-season I worked mostly to improve my mid range jump shot and my strength.”
Warrick is pushing himself to be the best player in a loaded 11th region and has set some high goals that would put him among the state’s elite players. He told me his personal goals this season are to average at least 20 points per game to go along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists per contest. If he can reach those goals he has for himself, his goals he has for his team are going to have a more realistic chance of happening. Warrick told me that his team goals for Henry Clay are “to win all our home games, the district and regional championships and ultimately a state title.” Marques has been near the top of our 2020 class rankings since they started and he should stay there until he graduates. The high ranking doesn’t bother him though, ” Being ranked highly in the state doesn’t put pressure on me to perform well because I know I can perform at a high level. I have a lot of motivation coming into the season and I still have a lot left to prove.” After two scrimmages, Marques Warrick looks primed for a huge season and could have the biggest year of anyone in the 2020 class. Looking ahead, Warrick projects as a D1 player and is one of the most underrated prospects in the state.
