Continue ReadingThe class of post players in the Junior class is smaller than the typical group in Kentucky and after a 2019 class full of D1 and D2 posts, the 2020 class hasn’t yet seen the college attention and offers that previous classes have. There are some very solid prospects in the group and some could be D1 commitments a year from now if they continue developing. Here’s a breakdown of the top post players in the Junior class.
- JJ Traynor, Bardstown – Traynor is no longer strictly a post player. JJ has expanded his game and is more of a stretch 4 or even a 3 at this point. At 6’8, Traynor has the versatility to play inside and out but if he has to get a bucket, he is a capable low post scorer. JJ is also an above average rim protector and two handed rebounder. He holds an NAIA offer from Georgetown College and interest from several D1 schools. If Traynor can reach his potential, he can be special.
- Ksuan Casey, Madisonville-North Hopkins – Ksuan is the best low post scorer in the class. On the block, he’s hard to handle without a double team. Casey can also stretch the floor with shooting and is a willing passer out of the double team. He needs to work to improve his conditioning and athleticism but all the skills are there for Casey. It’s up to him to reach his potential as a player.
- Rashad Bishop, Ballard – Bishop went from unranked to top 15 in the last ranking and I have high hopes for his development in his Junior season at Ballard. Rashad’s motor is among the best in the class when it’s running. Bishop is an excellent rebounder and won’t hesitate to try and tip dunk a miss. His athletic future may be mainly on the football field where he is a big time recruit at wide receiver but Rashad is definitely a potential college basketball player too.
- Noah Courtney, Male – The biggest riser in this edition of rankings, Courtney is a tough and physical combo forward who has started to stretch his game out to the 3 point line. Noah rebounds at a high rate and is comfortable putting the ball on the floor but needs to continue improving his shooting and ball handling in case he’s done growing. If he’s done, he is a tweener at the next level.
- Ray Surratt, Lafayette – Big Ray is similar to Ksuan Casey in that he does most of his damage in the half court. Ray prefers to pick and pop and shoot jumpers when possible. Surratt can score on the block as he is skilled down there but his lack of athleticism keeps him from finishing over more athletic bigs. Ray has had an array of college interest so far but will need to improve his foot speed and conditioning to reach the next level.
