Prospect Intro: Kevin Centers (2020)
Junior point guard Kevin Centers is hoping that a big AAU season leads to an even bigger high school season. Centers describes himself as, “A 6’2” left handed 1 or 2 guard. I’m a slasher type player and I can get to the rim and finish. I’m a good mid-range shooter and I can can shoot well from the 3. I also rebound well out of the guard position and I’m a crafty passer. I need to improve on consistent shooting on the outside and I’m working on getting more explosive off the dribble and getting stronger with my right hand.” Coming from one of the best programs in Northern Kentucky, Centers is ready for an expanded role with the Cooper Jaguars, “I was happy with the high school season. I was just stuck behind some great players last year, mainly Adam Kunkel. I look to start Varsity this year for Cooper High.”
This spring and summer Kevin has been a vital player for the 16u state champion Kentucky Defenders and is having a great season, “We’ve had a great season, winning the 16u State Championship. We also placed 3rd in D2 Nationals. We’ve gone deep in the Adidas Invitational and won other tournaments. Our current record is 36-6 and we’re really looking forward to our tournament in Las Vegas this week.” While Kevin is enjoying a good year with the Defenders, he’s looking forward to some recruitment coming his way. Heading into his Junior season, Centers is going to take a lot from his AAU season into the high school year, “A winning mentality, play hard, play fast, and getting everyone involved on the team.” are all things that Kevin can take back to Cooper with him to help his team this season. Kevin has lofty goals for himself and his team this season, “My goals for the next High School season are to keep the winning tradition going for Coach Sully and my brothers that built the winning tradition and to start getting offers.” If Cooper is going to make their way back to Rupp Arena, Kevin Centers is likely to play a large role in getting them there. Keep an eye on Centers and the Jaguars this season.
