Prospect Intro: Nick Roemer (2021)
Nick Roemer just wants an opportunity to show he can be the starting point at Kentucky Country Day. Roemer describes himself as a “Pass first point guard with a high IQ. I can rebound and defend very well. I’m capable of guarding 1-5. I can get to the basket and finish. While I’m a decent outside shooter, I still have room to improve in that area. Nick played primarily on JV during his freshman year at KCD but anticipates a bigger role this season, “I didn’t play very much on varsity. I played a lot on JV and played the whole game on freshman team. I was disappointed that I didn’t play varsity because I was very capable of playing varsity. I played well on JV. I played very well on freshman team. Varsity was decent last year. I thought we could’ve been better if we had played as more of a team.”
Nick is spending his spring and summer playing AAU with Kentucky Ambition 15u on the Adidas Silver Gauntlet, “I’m playing AAU with KY Ambition. Being our first time playing together and on the gauntlet I think we have done relatively well. Haven’t won as many games as we should’ve, but we have gotten a lot better. We have three more tournaments to go.” Roemer is using the experience on the Gauntlet to better himself for his sophomore year at Kentucky Country Day, “Since I have been the starting point guard on Ambition this year, I’ve had to deal with a ton of traps and stressful situations. I feel that has helped me the most. The amount of pressure I’ve faced in AAU will help me a lot in high school since the pressure won’t be as high. It’s also helping me be aggressive on offense and defense. All the players on the gauntlet are very good and you can’t ever take a play off. Mental toughness is also something I can apply to my HS season. This HS season I want to start. I know I am more than capable of starting. I just need my coach to trust me. I want to be the floor general my team needs. I can get my teammates the ball in great positions to score and I can get the rebound and push it. I’m very good in transition.” Nick Roemer is looking to ride the wave of a strong AAU season into being a starting point guard in Louisville as a sophomore. He can definitely be one to track in the 2021 class if he continues to develop.
