Prospect Intro: Brady Nelson (2020)
Greenup County is going to have a rebuilding season ahead of them in 2018-19. Harold Tackett retired from coaching and Gage Hughes is off to either college baseball or single A ball in the Kansas City Royals organization. Brady Nelson thinks he is the guy to carry a young team with a new coach. Nelson is going to be handed the reigns to the Musketeer program as a Junior and he has high expectations for himself and the team next season. Nelson is ready to make his name known on the state level,”I’m an all around playmaker. I can put the ball on the floor and score. I have a good pull up jump shot. I have a good court vision with a very high basketball IQ. I need improve my strength and outisde shooting”.
In 17 games for Greenup last season, Nelson averaged 7 points and 2.3 rebounds but struggled to make shots as he shot 33% overall and only 19% from three on the season. Nelson was pleased with his sophomore campaign, “My high school season was very good for me because I grew a lot as player and became more mature and more of a leader. I wasn’t very happy with our team results because we lost in the first round of the district tournament.” Nelson has spent his spring playing AAU with a program called Arctic Rush. He says he has averaged around 16 points and 6 assists over the spring AAU season.
While Nelson has yet to draw the eyes of college coaches, it’s very early in the recruiting process and he’s more focused on developing as a leader for his Greenup team. “Next season I need to be more of a scorer and leader for my team.” Brady Nelson has the size and skills to be an impact player in the region next season. If he can put it all together and stay healthy, he can get Greenup back to the regional tournament and have a chance to make a run to Rupp Arena.
