Prospect Intro: Zak Perdew (2020)
Bullitt East has been a 6th region powerhouse for well over a decade. The last two seasons the Chargers have struggled without guys like Tyler Sharpe and Derek Willis who had roamed the halls for several years. Zak Perdew hopes to be the next great Bullitt East player. Heading into his Junior season, Perdew is looking to have a big season and get Bullitt East back to the regional tournament. Zak is a point guard who thrives when creating offense for himself and his teammates. Zak is at his best when playing with great pace and pushing the tempo in the open floor.
Coming out of a sophomore season where Perdew started 10 games and averaged 8.5 points, he thinks his Junior season can be even bigger and better. Zak had an impressive 3:1 assist to turnover ratio and pulled down nearly 4 rebounds per game. As a starter, Perdew increased his scoring output to nearly 15 points per game. This spring Perdew has been playing AAU with the Louisville Prospects and has had individual success on a team that has struggled with injuries. Over the course of the AAU season Zak has been averaging 16 points and 5 assists per game for the Prospects.
Heading into his Junior year, Perdew is determined to get Bullitt East back to the 6th regional tournament. After a disappointing district tournament loss, Perdew told me “We lost in districts last season. In the Bullitt East tradition that should never happen and we well unperformed our expectations.” Zak expects his AAU success to carry over to the regular season, “I can take my constant ball handling and leadership role and convert that to my high school season as a junior.” As he works towards his first full season as a starter at East, Perdew’s goals are simple, “My goal is to make it to win the 6th region and make it to Rupp Arena. I expect myself to be an all 6th region selection.” If all goes according to plan, Perdew will get the Chargers back to Rupp Arena and start to draw the eyes of college coaches.
