We all know who fills up the box score each time out. The leading scorers, the names that jump off the stat sheet. But winning basketball is built on more than scoring. It's built on the guys who do the dirty work, set the tone, and keep the team steady when things get chaotic. The engines for their team. The pairs that impact winning in ways numbers can't explain. Here are the top glue guy duos in the 5A/4A Pikes Peak Conference.

Cheyenne Mountain is having themselves a year as they're racking up wins and look like a team that could really make some noise in the playoffs. They're 14-4 on the year, and one of their secret weapons is wing, [player_tooltip player_id='3508500' first='Rhys' last='Thuma']. Thuma is having a monster season. He's putting up 10.6 points and 7.3 rebounds a game, he's being aggressive and trying to make plays happen out there, and he's doing a ton of small things that don't show up in the boxscore. His ability to keep plays alive as a rebounder helps Cheyenne Mountain get second-chance opportunities as well as start the break. He makes the right decisions, he's a two-way standout, and is a prospect worth keeping eyes on as they make their push. He deserves some love as a glue guy who has looked like an important piece for this squad.

Dalsaso has stepped up and made the most of his opportunity this season. He's been one of the most complete players in the entire conference, as there aren't many things he doesn't do on the court. He scores, rebounds, playmakes, and is sound defensively, and teams have a difficult time game planning for him. He's putting up a productive 11.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and an impressive 3.6 steals a game from the two guard spot. He excels both with an offball, he's found his shot and has spaced the floor, and he gets to his spots. Cheyenne Mountain has taken off when he found his groove, and they will need that to continue their run. He's the catalyst for the team, and all eyes will be on him for the next week or two. I think he's ready for his moment!

Mindrup is having a season where he's been the secret weapon for Lewis-Palmer, and now that he's rolling, they're winning. He's been more consistent as a scorer as he's taking what the defense is giving him. He's slashing and getting to the rim, he's finally found his 3-ball, and is engaged defensively. He's able to impact the game when he's not scoring and uses his size. We want to see that continue as Lewis-Palmer is getting ready for its playoff run. He's the X-factor for the squad.

Lowe is another prospect over at Lewis-Palmer who does not get all of the attention, but his effort and the way he sets the tone have the Rangers as a team to watch. He has his flashes where he can impact the game with his defense, and his play impacts winning. He plays hard, he finishes plays, and takes on defensive assignments. He's starting to get his hands in the passing lane, his work ethic on the boards allow his team extra scoring opportunities, and he gets out and runs the break. He's a player who takes care of the ball, and there aren't a ton of mistakes when he's out there, and that stands out. He's a glue guy to keep an eye on as they make their run.

Makkai has made the most of his opportunity this season. He showcases his athleticism, competes on both ends of the floor, and is now in a solid stretch of basketball. The wins are also now piling up, and he's been a consistent contributor and reason as to why. He's putting up 8.1 points a game while also being a facilitator when the ball comes his way and crashing the boards as well. His work defensively is where he's really made the most progress. He's starting to look more and more like a defensive menace. He's defending without fouling, getting his hands in the passing lanes, and finishing in transition on those steals and also kicking out to the open man. Those are cultural shifters and have their defense stepping up. He's not a player who gets a ton of love, but he's earned more attention and can be a player who can win them a playoff game with his play.

Ross is one of the few underclassmen who are part of the rotation. He doesn't have to score the ball to be impactful, and that's how you earn more minutes as a young guy. We've seen flashes where he's been a force on the boards, he's swung the ball and made the right pass, and that earns trust. He's also started to improve as a scorer as he's looked more comfortable. He's available in every game, he's a reliable prospect, and he does a bit of everything. We are excited to see him continue to grow, as we feel he has the intangibles to be a really good player. Development is the name of the game.
