McDonald’s All-American: Scrimmage Standouts
Tuesday at the McDonald’s All-American Game week the East and West squads scrimmaged against each other. PrepHoops take a look at what prospects stood out to us ahead of the big game on Wednesday night!
Darius Garland (Brentwood Academy, TN – Vanderbilt)
Garland was extremely impressive in the scrimmage. The quick and shifty 6’2” point guard kept the opposing guards at bay with his ability to get in the lane where he scored with acrobatic layups and found his teammates for easy buckets in the paint. Creative passer in the half court that can also shoot it creating space on his mid-range jumper.
Keldon Johnson (Oak Hill, VA – Kentucky)
Johnson is just a born scorer. The Kentucky commit is a big and physical wing that plays really hard. He has a quick first step to the hoop and scores well at the rim in transition. Drilled a pair of threes in the scrimmage as well. Ready-made college scorer.
Cam Reddish (Westtown School, PA – Duke)
Reddish is probably the most polished offensive player in the class. The 6’8” wing can score at multiple levels with ease. Free and easy mechanics on his jump shot. Uber smooth off the bounce getting to the rim. Got the shots he wanted in this game.
Moses Brown (Archbishop Molloy, NY – UCLA)
Brown stands at 7’2” with a huge wingspan. He was active getting on the offensive glass for multiple put backs. Quick getting rebounds on both ends. Played with a high energy and made his impact rebounding, but struggled some finishing.
Romeo Langford (New Albany, IN)
Langford is the top uncommitted prospect in the country. The big and athletic small forward showed pop scoring off the dribble getting by defenders scoring at the rim. Got loose several times in transition. Burst to the hoop. Also is a weapon with his jumper.
Zion Williamson (Spartanburg, SC – Duke)
Williamson is the national name of this class from a fame standpoint. He is built like an NFL defensive end with his strength in both his upper and lower body. Great athleticism for his size. Rebounded well in traffic and scored around the hoop. Strong hands grabbing passes and finishing. Handles better in the half court than I had thought.
RJ Barrett (Montverde, FL – Duke)
Barrett who is the top prospect in the class was solid in the scrimmage, but not dominant. The lefty knows how to use angles well attacking off the bounce. Scrappy guard gets to the rim and can hit an occasional jumper, but will need to improve his consistency there. Liked how he got on the glass and did some things posting up.
