10 Best: McDonald’s All-American Game Top Performers
Tuesday night was the McDonald’s High School All-American Game. Prep Hoops has you covered looking at the top performers from the most prestigious high school game in America here in 10 Best: McDonald’s All-American Game!
Derik Queen (Montverde, FL – Maryland)
The Maryland commit is primed to make an immediate impact in the Big 10 next season. The 6’9” 230 pound center is one of the most skilled and physical posts in the country. He went to work all game long scoring in the paint on dump offs, put backs, and power moves. Runs the floor well for his size, is an effective defender as a rim protector along with getting steals for a big and is an elite level passer. The co-MVP of the game had 23 points (10-15 FG), 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.
Tre Johnson (Link Year, MO – Texas)
Johnson is a combo guard from Texas that will play for the Longhorns. New age lead guard that reminds me a bit of a Russell Westbrook when he was at his best with his frame and athleticism. Probably shoots it better. Can really score it with athleticism and shot making from all over the floor as he drained five triples in this game. Threw down a nasty tip dunk. Also showed off his passing instincts and got after it defensively on and off the ball. Lit it up for 17 points (6-9 FG) (5-7 3PT), 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Dylan Harper (Don Bosco, NJ – Rutgers)
Harper is a big bodied combo guard that is probably more of a natural scorer, but does show some solid feel passing it displaying that in ball screen situations along with throwing lobs. Power guard that can use his handles and strength to get down hill. Hit a pair of threes as well with a clean lefty stroke. The other co-MVP dropped 22 points (9-16 FG), 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Flory Bidunga (Kokomo, IN – Kansas)
The Indiana native who will be headed to Kansas for college is one of the best athletes among the posts in the national class. Big time pop blocking shots, rim running for dunks, rolling to the hoop for jams, and getting on the glass with his quickness. He had 6 points (3-3 FG) and 6 rebounds.
Boogie Fland (Archbishop Stepinac, NY – Kentucky)
Fland was maybe the biggest stock riser for me over the last few days. The shifty point guard headed to Kentucky has the ball on a string. Reminds me a lot of former Wildcat Tyler Ulis with his shake, handles, speed, and three point shooting. Hit three triples and dropped some of the best dimes of the game. On the evening he had 17 points (6-11 FG) (3-6 3PT), 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Karter Knox (Overtime Elite – Kentucky)
Knox has flown a bit under the radar over the last year, but he is in good shape as he used his strength to play bully ball on several drives to the hoop for scores. Powerful slasher that also hit a three. Efficient night with 9 points on 4-6 shooting.
VJ Edgecombe (Long Island Lutheran, NY – Baylor)
The most elite athlete on a floor of All-Americans this Baylor commit threw down multiple alley-oops, another big dunk, and showed explosiveness off the bounce going baseline for a finish along with getting fouled on another take. One of the best plays of the day was when he swatted a shot inside from his guard spot, grabbed the ball, and threw a long outlet for a dime. The future Baylor star had 9 points (4-8 FG), 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Cooper Flagg (Montverde, FL – Duke)
For fans that tuned in to get their first look at top ranked Flagg they might not have got the scoring show they expected, but they got the all-around feel that he will bring to Duke and at the top of the 2025 NBA Draft. Elite motor is shown through the way he offensive rebounds and always seems to be around the ball. Consistently makes the right play with the ball. Outstanding passer that pushed in the open floor dishing dimes like a point guard. The combo forward also is a high level defender both on and off the ball that took it very seriously on that end including a massive block early. His mid-range jumper and a few impressive dunks were how he scored it. Stat line was 8 points (3-9 FG), 6 rebounds, and 3 dimes.
Ian Jackson (Our Savior Lutheran, NY – North Carolina)
Jackson closed out an excellent week in Houston reestablishing himself as a top 5 player in the class. The North Carolina commit was on a heater in the second half. Used his athleticism off the bounce for an array of acrobatic finishes. Gets in the lane with such burst and finishes really well in traffic. Also hit a three. Instant impact scorer in Chapel Hill. Bit of a volume guy at times as he showed in this one scoring 21 points on 9-21 from the field.
