The Section 7 high school basketball tournament in Mesa, Arizona has started and ended. All the action began on Friday afternoon June 20, ending Sunday with 10 teams being recognized as Champions in their bracket. Northern California had 18 teams plus 4 from the Central Valley competing in one of the top events for high school basketball on the West Coast. NorCal had four teams crowned as champions on the final day of the live viewing period when college coaches can sit court-side to get a good look at players who might represent their program in the future.

Salesian College Prep wins the AIA Bracket with a gutsy performance over The Villages, Florida 63-55. [player_tooltip player_id='1703096' first='Elias' last='Obenyah'] Salesians top prospect was sidelined, which makes the run through one of the top brackets more impressive for the Pride. The rotation goes deep with the Pride calling on 8 to 10. It was a total team effort. [player_tooltip player_id='2835265' first='Isaiah' last='Davis'] the Senior guard knocked down timely shots throughout the game on Sunday. Leon Powe, the long wing showed his versatile style of play throughout the tournament. [player_tooltip player_id='1707503' first='Carlton' last='Perrilliat'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2452417' first='Jahlil' last='Lindsey'] both standing around 6'6 came off the football field to give Salesian the size and muscle needed win a title like this. Salesians 2027 prospects continue to rise [player_tooltip player_id='2352694' first='Elijah' last='Stanley'] the fast and quick combo guard, picked us his first DI offer recently, [player_tooltip player_id='2471762' first='Ronnie' last='Selleaze'] is settling and continues to show his potential, [player_tooltip player_id='2137369' first='Asante' last='Johnson'] was a lift coming off the bench with his relentless effort on the defensive side of the ball,The lone 2028 from Salesian [player_tooltip player_id='2605708' first='Juelz' last='Richo'] the long wiry forward showed he can stay in the rotation defending and rebounding. [player_tooltip player_id='2268982' first='Braylon' last='Franklin'] an experienced 2026 Forward was steady.

University takes home the trophy in the MICAMP Bracket with a win over a pesky Canyon, CA team, 61-57. The small school in the City of San Francisco has a backcourt duo in [player_tooltip player_id='2059746' first='Lucas' last='Lau'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2059723' first='Thomas' last='Meehleib'], two experienced playmaking guards that can matchup with any backcourt in NorCal. Both can create their own shot opportunities, have good vision, and passing to involve others. Lau's savvy ability to get buckets often in different ways can't go unnoticed, while Meehleib can drop open 3's, attacks the rim, while defending and helping rebound. [player_tooltip player_id='2268981' first='Kenta' last='Akiyama'] an experienced, and steady guard, along with [player_tooltip player_id='2838675' first='Sam' last='Newmeyer'] a 6'4 transfer, gives the team two more quality players. [player_tooltip player_id='2724603' first='Michael' last='Travis'] a rising Soph comes off the bench to help defend and rebound gives University depth.

The Branson School wins the ABCA Bracket racing past West Point, from Arizona to get the 66-42 win. That's kind of what they did in each game. Make no mistake it takes a team effort to win games. Branson has a supporting group of players who understand the big picture, and find ways to contribute. They have what we'll call the Big 3 for now. [player_tooltip player_id='2212735' first='NJ' last='Gray'] the do it all guard has planted himself as a top guard in California. He scores in different ways, while involving others, he defends with maximum effort. He has multiple DI offers. [player_tooltip player_id='1707443' first='Chase' last='Robertson'] an experienced, 6'4 wiry versatile prospect with the fearless approach looks a bit more settled early on. He's showing he's ready to take his game to another level. He's a tough minded competitor who'll defend and battle for rebounds. He's probably a wing with improving guard skills. He can take it up court pushing and looking to make the bright play, he'll finish above the rim, and hit jump shots. [player_tooltip player_id='2212734' first='Heath' last='French'] a big guard continues to add pieces to his overall game. His ability to defend multiple positions, help rebound, and fill lanes adds to his overall play on the court while his offense kicks in. He's putting up points in the flow, letting the game come to him. He's aggressive.

Bishop O'Dowd takes home the trophy in the Dorsey & Whitney Bracket with a win over Heritage Christian, CA. 71-65. The Dragons use the 5 in 5 out approach in the early games we saw. It gives the coaches an opportunity to evaluate individual players, and groups. They won the title with that approach, a total team effort. Naasir Griffin showed he's a rising Senior Guard. The Dragons have length, strength, and size. An active Ajahni Charles, [player_tooltip player_id='2509663' first='Kaiden' last='Gibbs'] both defend the paint, and run the court, and rebound. [player_tooltip player_id='1591733' first='Nico' last='Wright'] 6'8 square shoulders, long arms is developing, good effort, improving shot blocker, and post defender. Osereme Oriabure with a 6'2 body and strength gets points in the paint. The guards, Erick Thome, [player_tooltip player_id='2215139' first='GJ' last='Hill-Thomas'], and Jaylen Wright Davis gives O'Dowd ball handling, speed, passing and on ball defensive guard pressure.
