Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Newmayer has an intriguing blend of size, skill, pace, and feel. The 6-foot-4 wing can get above the rim for dunks, but he’s also adept at slowly driving closeouts and carving out space to get to his spots in the mid-range and at the hoop. He can make shots off the dribble from everywhere on the floor, he can use both hands to finish with finesse at the cup, and he’s able to play and pass within the flow of an offense. Newmayer could be on the scholarship border if he has a great year for his high school team this season, but he at the very least put himself on the radar of some of New England’s D3’s yesterday.

He transferred in a season ago as a 6’4 point guard who could facilitate the offense. In a new role this Spring, he’s a guard/forward actively looking to put points on the board when he gets the ball, and facilitate when needed. He has moves to get into the paint off the dribble, using footwork, and patience to score in the paint. He moves along the perimeter for a catch and shoot, might use a screen, or use his dribble to square up mid-range and 3-pointers. Led his team in scoring at Section 7.

Newmeyer is a 6-foot-4 slasher who does an excellent job cutting off the ball and finding seams in the defense for easy layups. He knows what he’s going to do with the rock before it comes to him, and he makes smart, under control decisions once he punctures the paint. He also has some handle to his game and a bunch of nice finishing moves at the hoop. He’s only a rising junior but should have D3 schools all over him in short order. If he grows and gets even stronger, he could even go higher than that. This will be a huge year for both his physical and on-court development.
