Our 2028 rankings were released this week and this was our initial rankings for this class. As usual, guards rule the early rankings as most of the bigs are currently developing and growing into their bodies while many guards have already made statements at the varsity level. In this article we'll look at seven point guards who make our initial rankings.

As a freshman Coffey was relied on leading Lebanon offensively and finishing 6th in the ECC in scoring and 3rd in assists per game as a freshman. A quick guard who could change directions and speeds, Coffey is tough to stop when he's attacking downhill. For Coffey he already made a splash as one of the most productive players in the Cincinnati area for his age and will look to improve his efficiency from 3-point range and lower turnovers as he continues to develop and mature as a player. College programs have already taken notice of Coffey as Ohio University and Kent State have offered him.

Another one of the most productive point guards in the Cincinnati area, Hill led Hughes to their best season in recent memory and finished 12th in the CMAC in scoring and 3rd in assists per game as a freshman. What I liked most about Hill's game was his touch and ability to make plays for others. When driving, Hill scored efficiently on floaters and even got the friendly roll on a couple jumpers. As a creator, Hill can draw help-side defense and quickly swing the ball to a shooter. After breaking onto the scene at the 15 U level for MR22 last summer, it'll be interesting to see what Hill has in store for an encore performance this year.

The lefty Hamrick got valuable experience starting for Walnut Ridge as a freshman as the Scots were once again one of the top teams in the Columbus City League. An impressive athlete who can play above the rim, Hamrick Jr can throw it down in transition. I was also impressed with his advanced passing ability for his age when I saw Walnut Ridge this season. With Hamrick Jr and [player_tooltip player_id='2139998' first='Deon' last='Johnson'], Walnut Ridge has a great young backcourt to build around for the next couple of seasons.

A player who got more and more minutes at the varsity level as the year went on, Williams showed really impressive flashes as a ball handler and defender for a freshman. Advanced with the ball in his hands, Williams has some slick highlights where he breaks the defender down and gets to the rim. His frame and athleticism also gives him defensive upside on and off the ball. I'll be excited to continue to watch Williams grow and develop this summer as he could be a featured option for Garfield Heights next season.

Another Cincinnati area prospect who made a statement at the varsity level as a freshman, Johnson-Perdomo averaged 10 PPG and 4 APG in the tough GMC as a freshman. A very quick point guard, Johnson-Perdomo can get where he wants to off the bounce and has started to develop a mid-range and floater shot to avoid going up against shot blockers in the paint. That skill will be crucial for his scoring efficiency because it's very difficult to stay in front of him off the dribble and if he can consistently make shots from the in-between areas on the court then he will be a tough cover at the high school level.

It's very rare for a freshman to be named first team all OCC but Saxton made that list after an impressive freshman season for Grove City where he made a big impact on both ends of the court. A guard who will pressure the ball and force turnovers, Saxton is a pest defensively. On the offensive end Saxton can make shots with his feet sets and has a variety of finishes he uses at the rim. Very valuable at the high school level, I'll be curious to see how Saxton impacts the game on the grassroots circuit this summer.

Another GMC mention on this list, Bowman was Lakota East's third leading scorer on a senior laden team with a pair of freshman getting valuable minutes to continue to build the future of the program. Bowman actually first got on our radar last spring when he played up for All Heart 15 U and they won the championship on Memorial Day weekend. I was impressed by Bowman's feel for the game and ability to make shots efficiently from 3-point range. I'll be sure to check Bowman out for [program_tooltip program_id='2076317' first='Midwest' last='Basketball Club 3SSB'] this summer!
