Prospect Spotlight: Kenny White (2020)
The season is barely 2 weeks old but several members of the 2020 class have made big strides since their freshman year and the results are showing. Madisonville – North Hopkins has two of the top sophomores in the state in Kenny White and Ksuan Casey. Casey is a bruising post player and White is an athletic wing. Both are rapidly gaining the attention of college coaches and look to have bright futures are Division 1 talents.
2020 Madisonville Wing Kenny WhiteKenny describes his game as “a real smooth left handed player that can play all positions on the floor.” Kenny believes his biggest strength is in his ability to score the ball and tells me that he is working to become a better finisher through contact. White has big goals for both himself and his team this season, “My main goal for myself is to average 20 points a game and about 8-10 rebounds. My goal for the team is to win regionals and go to state. Through 6 games, the Maroons are 4-2 and Kenny is averaging 13.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He is struggling with his outside shot and free throws early this season.
Kenny has already had Miami (Ohio) make the trip to Madisonville to see him. Western Kentucky watched him play last week and invited him on an unofficial visit soon. The long lefty is already thinking about what he values in potential college suitors, “I’m looking for a college that really wants me to play for them and want me to score and just fit in with the team.” In our 2020 rankings, Kenny was the top ranked small forward and 17th overall in the class. He should move up with a productive sophomore season heading into 16u AAU. I asked Kenny if his ranking and college attention has changed the way he plays. “Kinda, but not really because I’m still gonna go out and play my hardest every game. But, yes because I have to show college coaches what I can do on the court.”
Kenny White already possesses the size and frame of a prototypical Division I wing. He is already getting feedback from college coaches that he needs to play harder and with a better motor. As Kenny learns to play harder and improves his perimeter shooting, he should draw more colleges this season and make a push to become a top 10 player in the 2020 class.
