Recruiting Report: Matthew Rich (2018)
Six-foot-3 guard Matt Rich of Rock Canyon is about to get his turn at the varsity level and he wants to make the most of it.
Matthew played at the 17u level this summer getting as much time on the floor as he could to gain a higher level of experience.
“I had a great summer playing with The Elevation Flyers,” Rich said. “We played some local tournaments but also played in The Great American Shootout in Wichita, The Hardwood Classic in Kansas City, and the Tarkanian Classic in Vegas. We played many quality teams.
“I trained with Mike Evans II of Evans Elite Academy, and played in a summer league with Rock Canyon. I had a good junior year playing JV for Canyon, and had an opportunity to swing varsity.”
Matthew spent his off-season working hard in both the weight room and in the basketball gym.
“I have been working on my outside shoot, ball handling, and strength,” Rich said. “We have a very talented team coming back for the season, we have seven returning players. After losing in the final four last year, our goal is to go all the way.”
Rock Canyon has a load of talent so Rich just wants to find a way to help his team.
“My goal for this winter is to contribute in any way my team needs me,” Matthew said. “Whether that means scoring, rebounding, or defending. Our team goal is to be the best defensive team in the state and never get out worked.”
Rich is a solid basketball player but also is a solid Track and Field athlete.
“I’ve been contacted by two schools regarding high jumping for them, I am just starting my recruiting process for basketball,” Rich said.
