Grothe continued his growth at The Classical Academy as his game was on full display during an impressive January, where he made his presence felt in every phase of the game. The 6’4” combo guard averaged 12.2 points, highlighted by a season high 23, while also pulling down 5.8 rebounds and dishing out six assists per game. His 1.9 steals reflect his strong two way impact and ability to disrupt opponents defensively. Grothe’s size and versatility allow him to control the pace, make plays for others, and contribute consistently without forcing the action. His all around play was a major factor in The Classical Academy’s 6–2 stretch and shows just how much his game continues to evolve

Grothe is a prospect that we have seen now a few times, but he’s made a huge jump in production now that his opportunity has come. He’s averaging 11.8 points a game right now and has been a prospect that teammates make sure to find. He’s been a reliable scorer both inside and out as he’s hit 3-pointers, knocked down mid-range jumpers, and finished near the basket. He’s also been a facilitator who has run the show for Classical Academy and appears to be the team’s best passer. Grothe is putting up 5.5 assists a game, which is Top-5 in the class, has 3.5 steals a game, which is amongst the top in the class, and is also a force on the boards. He’s been a complete player and is due for a ranking bump. 

Grothe made the most of limited minutes as a freshman at The Classical Academy, averaging 2.8 points per game, but his summer play showed significant growth and promise. He’s a natural scorer with advanced ball handling skills, capable of creating opportunities for himself and others. His quick first step allows him to get downhill with ease, putting defenders on their heels and generating high quality looks at the rim. Grothe demonstrates poise and court awareness that sets him apart for his age. With his combination of skill, speed and improved confidence, he’s a prospect to watch this season

Grothe excels at getting downhill in transition and takes pride in his high motor. Playing through all four quarters until the clock hits double zeros, there is no questioning Grothe’s effort, making him an asset on both ends of the ball.

Grothe’s summer with L.O.B. Elite and his play at our showcase showed how active and valuable he can be, and is a big reason that he makes the jump onto our rankings. He plays hard on both ends of the floor, finds open lanes, and keeps pressure on defenses, which allows him to stay in the game. His motor and energy consistently stood out in times that we’ve seen him this summer. If Grothe can continue to expand his game and embrace a bigger role, he will only continue to rise in the rankings. 

Grothe turned in a standout performance showcasing a complete, high energy game on both ends of the floor. Offensively he was a relentless slasher, using his quick first step and advanced ball handling to drive past defenders, attack the rim and finish strong through contact. He consistently put defenses on their heels, creating opportunities for himself and finding teammates when the defense played him close. On the defensive end Grothe was equally impressive, staying active with his hands and anticipation to generate steals and spark fast break opportunities. His ability to combine scoring, slashing and defensive pressure made him a constant threat, and his energy and versatility ensured he was a key factor in every possession throughout the showcase

Wilson Grothe Wilson Grothe 6'4" | PG/SG The Classical Academy | 2028 State CO brought chaos to opponents as the top of The Classical Academy’s zone. With long arms, quick feet, and active hands, he created turnovers and sprinted the floor for transition scores. In grassroots play, he’s showing even more as he’s hitting threes, finishing dunks, and doing the dirty work that keeps him on the floor. His motor and athleticism make him an intriguing two-way wing to watch and if he keeps it up, will quickly climb the ranks. Very intrigued by Wilson.
