Michigan Sophomore ID Camp: Want Them With The Ball

The Prep Hoops Michigan Freshman Showcase was an elite collection of future talent in the state. These were players that we'll be watching and evaluating a lot over the next few years. There was a terrific collection of players that I would want to have with their hands on the ball. Whether it be from their handles to their passing, these players should have it. His handles were on display on Saturday. Gillich had a nasty little right to left crossover that he finished with and even turned into an and 1 opportunity.     If you can flat out get past your man when you have the ball, we want you with it. Medalla did just that at the camp. He showed some impressive blow by speed with the ball in his hands. Medalla also dished the ball, specifically he had an on target bounce pass to a cutting teammate.     Scott proved that he can be a nightmare for opponents when the ball is in his hands. He could consistently shake his man and create space. Scott had a lightning fast crossover on the baseline that drew a foul.     In my opinion, Underwood was one of the best all around players at the camp. He was trustworthy with the rock and had a nice left to right crossover that put his defender on his hip.     Word is a prospect that I'm very high on and he backed that in Grand Rapids. He did some really nice work with the ball on the baseline. Word is a quick and explosive athlete, but he showed a nasty power move with an aggressive dribble.     If we want the ball in your hands, you've got to be playing with your head up. Cannon was doing just that. The Belleville prospect did a really nice job of looking up the floor to push pace with the pass.     Speaking of playing with your head up, Crowder fit that bill last weekend. He really saw the floor well and was always scanning down the court looking for teammates with transition opportunities. Crowder was able to connect with the pass and create offense.     Hartfield impressed when he had the ball in his hands. He did a nice job of using a fast first step that turned into an impressive ability to start and stop his momentum with the ball. This helped Hartfield keep defenders at bay.     Perry is the real deal as a player and prospect and he showed that at the camp. I was impressed with his passing at the event. Perry saw the floor well and put passes right where they needed to be.     Sotiropoulos was VERY impressive in Grand Rapids. He played a mature lead guard game, keeping mental mistakes to a minimum and making great decisions with the ball. I'd certainly trust it in his hands.     Simmons had a day on Saturday and proved that he can do things with the ball. He made athletic plays off the bounce that really pressured the D. Simmons was able to split defenders on an attack through the lane and score.     McCree is a must see prospect if a coach is looking for someone trustworthy with the ball that can make plays. He wasn't just efficient. He was FAST. On multiple occasions I saw McCree flat out blow by defenders on his way to the rim.     I came away from the camp very impressed with Dickerson's play. He was steady and smart with the ball. Dickerson was a very willing passer in the open floor. He was able to draw defenders and dish the ball to the wings for easy buckets.     Schick should be on a lot of coaches lists for the class of 2027. I know he can shoot and score, but he can really play with a true lead guard mentality. Schick was strong, steady and smart with the ball. He showed a true knack for finding scorers and getting them the ball at opportune times.
