We released our updated Class of 2027 Prospect Rankings right at the end of June. That was a very busy period of time fresh off of the Charlie Hughes Showcase and heading into the July grassroots season. Due to the busy schedule at the time, we at Prep Hoops Indiana feel like our rankings content, generally some of our most popular, didn't get the attention that it deserves. Therefore, we will spend this quieter period in August to revisit our rankings content beginning here with the Class of 2027. First, we will simply re-release the Class of 2027 Prospect Rankings themselves. Stay tuned for much more including additional summer stock-risers, new names, under-the-radar Watch List prospects, and much more.

We highlighted Barnes as a stock-riser in the 2027 class back in late June, but his play in the month of July earned him another mention. A high-upside big man that has flown a bit under-the-radar in a super talented rising sophomore class at Fort Wayne Snider High School, Barnes is a two-way threat around the basket. He runs the floor well, plays above the rim offensively, and can block shots on the defensive end of the floor. Look for him to continue to continue to breakout heading into his sophomore season at Snider. One of the better long-term front court prospects in Fort Wayne's Class of 2027.

It would seem hard to include a Top 5 prospect in a discussion of stock-risers, but that is how good [player_tooltip player_id='2194415' first='Jason' last='Gardner'] Jr's summer was. He was one of the Class of 2027 standouts at the 3SSB Palmetto Road Championships in Rock Hill in July solidifying himself as a high-major target and likely Top 100 national prospect. The super quick, dynamic point guard has since earned an offer from Cincinnati and will move up to #2 in the Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2027 Prospect Rankings when they are updated next. There are few guards in the country at his age that can get end-to-end with the ball as quickly as Gardner.

Jeffersonville was a Top 20 team in the state last season that got hot at the right time and nearly made it all of the way to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Now, they have some very legitimate preseason #1 buzz after their undefeated showing at the Charlie Hughes Showcase. Jones got his feet wet in 19 games at the varsity level as a freshman, but now looks poised to take on more responsibility. The talented 6'0" guard was a standout at the recent MADE Hoops Midwest High School Academy.

We at Prep Hoops Indiana had the opportunity to watch Kern play a little bit more to end the summer at the GRBA National Championship in Fort Wayne where he played very well with [program_tooltip program_id='2400000' first='Indiana' last='Elite Team Indiana']. The 6'0" guard shot the ball very well knocking in five three-point shots in one game that we watched. However, he also created some off of the bounce using the defenses aggressive closeouts to his advantage. Look for him to have a strong sophomore season this winter with Bedford North Lawrence.

Fresh off a strong performance at the Battle of the Borders to cap off the summer, McKain has long been on our radar here at Prep Hoops Indiana since first seeing him in the Pocket City Fall League ahead of his freshman season. McKain has all of the athletic and physical tools you could ask for in a guard. He played very well with [program_tooltip program_id='2400093' first='Indiana' last='Elite Team Tradition'] when we had a chance to watch him play out in South Carolina as he helped lead his team to the Adidas Gold 15u title. A very good three-sport athlete, McKain's strength, ball skill, and athleticism translate very well to the hardwood.

Another late summer standout at the GRBA National Championship in Fort Wayne, Peterson was excellent in the games we watched of [program_tooltip program_id='2400000' first='Indiana' last='Elite Team Indiana'] 15u. The 6'4” forward from Cathedral High School has a big, strong frame but moves around very well and has impressive ball skills. He finished offensive rebound putbacks at the rim, scored inside using his size when attacking closeouts, and stepped into a couple catch-and-shoot three-point shots. There is a lot of talent at Cathedral High School, but his size and versatility could potentially allow him to carve out some varsity time this winter.

When we start to expand our Prep Hoops Indiana Class of 2027 Prospect Rankings at our next update you can expect to see Sigmund break his way into the conversation. The 5'11" sharpshooter had a great summer playing with [program_tooltip program_id='2076924' first='EG10' last=''] which culminated in a 15u championship at the Prep Hoops Circuit Grit Region Finals. Already a valuable contributor for Decatur Central as a freshman when he averaged 6.3 points per game and shot 39.3% from three on just under two makes per game, Sigmund is set to really blossom into a primary scoring role for the Hawks this coming season.

A late summer standout at the GRBA National Championships in Fort Wayne, Welker looked like a potential breakout star in the Class of 2027. You can expect to see him crack into our expanded Prep Hoops Indiana Rankings at our next update. The 6'4"-6'5" forward possesses some fluid athleticism on the perimeter showcasing the ability to slice his way to the basket and change directions off of the dribble. Welker also has some pick-and-pop ability from beyond the arc. Look for him to put together a very good sophomore season at Homestead High School this winter.
