The Bedford North Lawrence rising senior had a monster June Scholastic Period. Always been known for being a sharpshooter, but the has come into his own as a primary playmaker and distributor for the Stars. Plays at his own pace and is tough to get sped up. Not the quickest or most athletic but does a really good job creating advantages with angles. Played extremely aggressive this June with big time shotmaking ability while also impacting games with his playmaking and rebounding.

Bedford North Lawrence could be a vastly improved team in 2026-2027. There are a few talented pieces to watch, but Kern is the head of the snake. He serves as the primary playmaker and also shoots it very well from three-point range. The athletic guard averaged 21.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 12-17 (70.6%) from three-point range in four games.

Got a chance to watch the Bedford guard early morning Saturday at Run N Slam and although his offense was not fully there scoring wise in that one particular game, it was the defense that I thought really stood out for him. Kern is a smart guard that can really compete on the floor. He showed some nice hands on the defensive end getting them on the ball and in the passing lanes. Just overall like the pace and IQ he has on both ends of the floor.

He’s patient in the pick and roll as a playmaker. Defender goes under and he’s ready to shoot. Crafty ball handler allows him to attack off the screen hard and doesn’t force anything taking what the defense gives him. Defensively he is solid. He stays in a stance and keeps his man in front of him while making it difficult.

I think I would strongly say this was one of the best performances I have seen from the guard out of Bedford High School. He played that lead guard role so well being that steady force in the backcourt for Team Indiana 2027. Thought he showed really good defense which resulted in stops and steals. Made a few big time plays like a steal and assist in transition as well as throwing the best lob pass I saw all night that resulted in a huge dunk. Did a good job of drawing contact and knocking down the three ball.

Kern has shown a lot of good things over the spring/summer as he heads into his junior season at Bedford. A guy that can do a little bit of everything in the backcourt, he plays with a tough motor and has quickness both on and off the ball. He can put up a lot of points if he finds his rhythm while also being a player you can trust to be in that facilitator role as well.
