Hansen was the MVP of the SCAC East league last season and has gone on to show some excellent play with Seattle Select during the spring. He’s a strong guard who gets downhill, changes direction well, and is tough at the rim. He has plus athleticism and great burst on the perimeter, splits defenders well in traffic, and is able to deploy quick moves on the go.
Highlights
Schmitz excels as a spot-up perimeter shooter and can play off that with some off-the-dribble shooting in the midrange. He knows his strengths and how to get in position to take advantage of them; sprinting out to space breaks, making good reads off screens, and mixing in some good ball fakes and pivots to get around aggressive defenders. He’ll be thrust into a bigger role this season and will be a player to watch.
Another player who should see an expanded role this winter, Hanson has been putting up some big numbers in the spring, largely with his long-range shooting. He should be a key floor spacer who has some deep range and looks like he’s put a lot of work into shooting off of different feeds. He’s also got some length at the guard spot that factors in at the rim and in passing lanes.
Highlights
Nelson is a great competitor who came up in clutch spots with plays all over the court last season with Glacier Peak. He’s a strong guard who plays well off two in the paint, can defend on the perimeter, and rebounds well for a kid his size. He’s a glue guy who was invaluable for his team last season and should play a big role again this winter.
Highlights
Zapata is just a kid who gets it done. Olympia didn’t bring a ton of size to the floor last season but they got it done with quick, decisive guards. Zapata fits that mold to a T and he brings toughness inside to fight for extra possessions and finish in traffic. He also showed great touch around the paint with the short to midrange jumpers.
Highlights
Washington is a kid who could keep rising up the ranks if he continues to play like he has so far this summer. He’s a strong guard with a good handle who can break down his man or blow by them off the catch with a quick first move. He’s got a good mix of power finishes and some acrobatics inside, and sees lanes to attack with good vision.
Highlights
Parker’s a plus athlete who plays big for a guard/wing. He’s tough on the glass on both ends and can finish second-chance buckets or work off the blocks. He’s a high-motor guy who leaves a big mark on the defensive end.
Highlights
Chavez is a pretty crafty guard who plays with good pace and shows soft touch inside and out. He sees the floor well on both ends, plays anticipatory basketball, and does a good job balancing scoring with facilitating.
Highlights
Fletch showed some real promise in big games for Skyview last season, dropping in timely 3s, making big hustle plays for loose balls, and showing some strength finishing inside. He’s a kid to watch who could step up in a big way for the Storm this winter.
