Continue ReadingIt’s still SUPER early for 2027 prospects but there are some making massive noise on the court already and have potential to reach the scholarship level in college by the time their high school careers end. These are the top shooting guards in our freshman rankings update, not including players who were in the top 10.
Slone was one of our top movers in this ranking and could not be done moving up. Johnson Central has always had players that can score in bunches. Austin is averaging 26 points in his freshman season with 53-38-75 shooting splits and adding 7 rebounds per game. I look forward to seeing how he does this AAU season.
Flinchum was a new name in this update and is already having a big scoring career that will end with him as a top 5 scorer in KHSAA history if trends continue. Like Slone, I look forward to seeing Corey this AAU season when he will be able to impress against better competition.
Highlights
Byrd is the opposite of Flinchum and Slone in that we are betting on long term potential vs current production with Armani. Byrd is long and lean with a ton of upside. He’s learning as a role player for the reigning state champs right now. Check back on him in a year and Byrd could be a top 10 prospect in the class.
Highlights
Stinnett is a pure shooter in the mold of a Klay Thompson in the thought that he may score 18 points off 4 dribbles. A catch and shoot master, Michael Ray is currently shooting 48% from three and making 3.5 per game on his way to 13 points per game. Another wild stat: Stinnett has shot 148 threes and only 38 two pointers.
Highlights
Carothers slid out of the top ten in the update but his long term potential is still really high. Dre has played a very limited role for Owensboro Catholic this season so his AAU season will go a long way to moving back up the rankings. He’s also a big time quarterback prospect with potential to be a scholarship level athlete in both sports.
