Here’s a look at the 10 players who will are among the state’s best and make up our preseason All State 1st Team for Class 4A-B in Oklahoma.
The junior point guard might be the best traditional point guard in the state regardless of grade. Last season he helmed a youthful Pirates squad to a state championship with the perfect blend of scoring himself and creating for others. Dale is already 3-0 on the year and the favorite in Class 2A.
Over the spring and summer, Young scooped up Power 5 offers while playing on the Adidas Gauntlet with Team Trae Young Elite. Now he’ll begin his sophomore campaign with a high expectations Racers team. Despite his relative youth, he’s a complete guard that uses his athleticism to be a terror as a defender and a handful off the bounce. When teams do play off him, he can make them pay as a shooter as well.
A four year contributor for a Chargers team that has been a regular at the Big House in March. While an injury will damper the start to his senior season, Perry will be one of the most efficient scorers in the small school ranks once he makes it back onto the court.
Last season, the explosive small town guard helped Caddo to a 25-5 mark and an appearance in the Class A semifinals. Already over 1,000 points in just two seasons of play, Dill should be putting up video game like numbers all season long. As his game is a great blend of skilled and smooth shooting, with collegiate level athleticism.
It was difficult to pick just one Falcon from the defending 3A champs for this team. In the end the pure talent and upside of yet another super sophomore gave Nickens the nod. One of the best pure athletes in the state, Nickens is a gifted scorer and overall gamechanger.
The third sophomore on this list, Furnish looked the part of an experienced guard from the jump as a freshman as he helped Crossings to a semifinal appearance in their first season in 4A. An uber-efficient operator in the midrange, when he’s not scoring himself look for him to keep the talented Knights running efficiently as a distributor.
A newcomer to Douglass, the lanky wing is one of the top defenders in the state thanks to his size, athleticism and the tenacity he plays with. After a few years out of the mix in Class 4A, McMorris and others should have the Trojans back to contending at the Big House. Along the wide, he’ll be must watch this winter. As his the uptempo, aggressive coaching style of Steve Alexander will often feature slams from McMorris.
Hammer will regularly be dropping the hammer with slams this season for Westville. He’s an explosive and strong athlete, who regularly plays around the rim. But he’s more than just an athlete, he has a great passing touch and feel. From outlet passes to touch passes in the halfcourt he’s a skilled creator. The eastern Oklahoma small town product has been one of the hidden gems in the state but he should be no secret now as he attempts to help Westville to the Big House in March.
The small school sophomore theme continues with the Weatherford standout, who also helped his team to the Class 4A semifinals last season. A special type of athlete, he’s explosive and strong with comes with being broad-shouldered. But is also nimble enough on his feet and skilled enough to play around the perimeter as a big wing.
Last season Gray was a dominating force for the Saints as they made a run to the Class 3A semifinals. Now with the Edmond based school moved up to Class 4A, he’ll have even more pressure placed on his broad-shoulders. He’ll be another player regularly assaulting the rim, but his three point shooting has also steadily improved over the past year.
