Expert Analysis

Recently offered by Southeast Missouri State, McMorris has continued his whirlwind play of offensive and defensive production with an outstanding senior season for 4A contenders Douglass. Toughness exudes from his game, which is evident in how he finishes through contact, blocks shots, deflects passes, battles for rebounds and leaves it all on the court.
This season has seen growth in his jumper, the extra time he’s putting in is obvious. It’s not currently a strength, but the right college that has good development system in place could see him become a solid shooter. McMorris is a valuable versatile defender and tempo setter with his steely determination. He is the type of player that already positively impacts winning. And with continual growth to his offensive game, would surely help produce wins for any Low to Mid Major program.

, the best way to describe his senior season is he’s “unlocked” something on the offensive end of the floor. McMorris has always been one of the best athletes and defenders every time he stepped on the floor. But this season, he’s made it look normal to have a stat line like 20-25 points, 10+ rebounds and 5 steals. McMorris has taken his game to a completely new level on offense and because of that, his “stock” couldn’t be higher as a prospect within the state’s 2023 class. McMorris is arguably the best available prospect in the state’s 2023 class and he’s playing like one of the best overall players as well.

One of the most impactful players in the state. Through his energy and athleticism, McMorris always leaves his fingerprints all over the game with winning plays. The best example of this was with the game tied late, he drew a crowd and trusted his teammate

with the big shot. The trust was rewarded as the senior picked up the assist and most importantly his team picked up the win.
He’s one of the most dynamic slashers and offensive rebounders in Oklahoma. Those have been traits apparent since watching the springy wing play 15U AAU basketball, but he has also been adding to his craft with work on his jumper. Even with all the high energy production, the unsigned senior is still only scratching the surface as he adds more pieces to his game.

was once again on top of his game. McMorris finished with a game-high 26 points in the win as he was consistently getting to the basket and finishing, as well as converting at the charity stripe. We mentioned earlier this week how McMorris was reaching new heights on the offensive end of the floor and that was once again evident on Tuesday night. McMorris has always been one of the state’s top defenders. But this season, we’ve seen McMorris flip the switch on offense and turn into more of scorer from just about everywhere on the floor. He’s always been a good slasher and that was on display Tuesday night but his improved jumper is another reason he’s arguably the top available prospect in the state’s 2023 class.

was right there with Baker for the game-high in points with 26 points on the afternoon. McMorris had a complete game on both sides of the ball. He was excellent as an on-ball defender and came away with several impressive blocked shots on the day. McMorris also had a complete performance on the offensive side. He had just about everything working for him throughout the game. He scored 15 of his 26 points in the second half. McMorris lived at the free throw line after being aggressive. He would finish 11-19 from the charity stripe. He left some points on the free throw line but he was a big reason that the Trojans remained in the game and made several runs.

A newcomer to Douglass, the lanky wing is one of the top defenders in the state thanks to his size, athleticism and the tenacity he plays with. After a few years out of the mix in Class 4A, McMorris and others should have the Trojans back to contending at the Big House. Along the wide, he’ll be must watch this winter. As his the uptempo, aggressive coaching style of Steve Alexander will often feature slams from McMorris.

. It doesn’t take long while watching McMorris on the floor to know that he’s truly one of the more special athletes in this 2023 class. He just looks the part and his game has continued to evolve over the last few seasons. McMorris is a ball-stopping player on the defensive side of the ball as he has the ability to give smaller guards problems. He’s one of the better perimeter defenders in this class. His recruitment is somewhat puzzling because more schools should be flocking to Del City to go after a prospect who’s ceiling is incredibly high moving forward. While Dow might be one spot ahead of McMorris in this update, you can make the argument that McMorris has a higher ceiling at the next level.
