The Oklahoma State commit showed in the first half on Friday night that his finishing ability can translate to the highest level of grassroots basketball. From having the burst and strength to get downhill and finish in traffic, to improving footwork and ball fakes to slow it down and use those moves to create space for finishing. His weekend after the strong Friday night first half was quieter, but the bucket getting ability for Young remains apparent.

Oklahoma’s top 2025 prospect will be making his debut with a new program, MOKAN on the Nike EYBL Circuit in Indianapolis.. Young made big strides as a more efficient scorer during his junior year, which saw Midwest City win the Class 5 State Title. With a mix of athleticism and skilled scoring, he’s a dangerous threat at all three levels. While also being a terror on the defensive end with quick hands and great instincts. Young committed to Oklahoma State this past year under the previous coaching staff, and appears set to honor that commitment even with the coaching change.

The tradition rich Midwest City program will be playing for a State Championship for the first time in over a decade, with Young playing a big role in their turnaround this season.
Oklahoma’s top junior helped swing the intense rivalry game with a big seven point run in the third quarter, which was capped with a big slam. Young’s progression this year with a more smooth off the dribble shooting game has made him become an even more efficient sniper from deep. He went 6-8 from the field, 2-4 from three, with a game high 16 points.

As the tallest Bomber, Young was turned into a do it all weapon for the Bombers. He still had plenty of moments of his skilled guard play, complete with some nice vision on a couple feeds. Along with spots of his dynamic driving ability, where he put to use the giant killer moves on finishes. But the junior also battled down low against Collinsville’s side. His plus wingspan and quick hands were key parts of Young playing bigger his size, when it came to contesting shots and and doing some of the dirty work needed to help the Bombers advance.

The headliner for Oklahoma’s current juniors, Young could be considered for many of the categories but lets focus on why he’s at the top spot. He has the size and wingspan to be an off the ball guard or even wing, but continues to improve his overall skillset as a scorer. The lefty’s handle has started to become tighter and has even more command of his wide array of moves to create separation to pull up from deep or the mid-range. On the defensive side on the ball, he has some of the best instincts in Oklahoma it when it’s coming passing lanes or sensing weakness when covering on the ball. His hands are some of the fastest in the state! The Oklahoma State commit is the complete package and has played a key role in the surging Bombers becoming one of the top contenders in Class 5A.

Midwest City made a loud statement at the PCI with three straight wins over good 6A programs. They were anchored by one of the best players in the state. Young was in double figures all three contests, including a 26 point outburst in the Bombers’ semifinal win over a big Union squad. The physically gifted guard has continued to refine his craft as a scorer. This was evident in the opening round win over his former school Putnam City West, with a variety of moves on off the dribble threes. And good footwork to avoid foes on drives to the rim.

The Oklahoma State commit started the contest on fire from deep, and hit a tough finish at the rim. But for the second straight viewing, the referee’s whistle would disrupt his flow and have him spend a large portion of the second half on the bench. Still when he checked in late in the fourth, there was no signs of rust. With the game tied late, he got to the lane, drew the foul. Then hit both free throws that would put the Bombers up for good. Along with his good offensive scoring, his combination of size and defensive instincts has him in the conversation for the best defender in the state.

Early on it looked Oklahoma’s top junior prospect would live at the rim, but foul trouble would derails Young in this intense rivalry game. Still when on the court, he had a handful of plays that showed he was a cut above of the rest of the prospects in the game. One particular play stood out in the third quarter when he recorded a steal near halfcourt. Then made the opposition look like they were in moving slow motion as he glided through them, then avoided traffic in the paint for a smooth finish. Perhaps it was the nature of the foul trouble and good defensive scouting, but he never got settled in from distance and in the second frame he had a couple sloppy turnovers. Still with his disruptive nature on defense and outstanding finishing package, the Oklahoma State commit is set for a huge junior season for the 5-2 Bombers.

The Oklahoma State commitment is back in Oklahoma and enrolled at Midwest City. He had a strong start to his Oklahoma prep basketball career, and after an impressive summer against national competition should be set to take his game to an even higher level. His defensive instincts are outstanding, with quick hands and amazing anticipation to rack up blocks and steals. Young is also a strong finisher off the dribble with a variety of moves, while the lefty must be respected as a shooter as well. The top of 5A looks ready to be a war, and with Young the Bombers would be firmly in the mix of those battles.
