Kentucky vs. Ohio All-Star Game Recap
Both the girls’ and boys’ Kentucky All-Star teams took home wins Saturday night while competing in the annual Kentucky-Ohio all-star game at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, KY. The boys’ team came out victorious 94-90 over the Ohio All-Stars, with 2017 Mr. Basketball winner Taveion Hollingsworth taking home game MVP.
In a game that featured over 15 NCAA Division I commits, Kentucky started out controlling the game early. Ohio would come back to tie the game at the end of the 1st quarter with a 3-pt field goal by Naz Bohannon (Bohannon holds offers from Brown and Kent State).
Kentucky would come back in the 2nd quarter to outscore Ohio 29-16 in the period, taking a 52-39 lead into the locker room at halftime.
After the break Ohio would come back just as it had late in the 1st quarter, bringing the game closer at 68-62 going into the 4th. Ohio outscored Kentucky 23-16 in the 3rd.
The 4th quarter saw both teams go at each other. For an all-star game, you would have thought both rosters were playing for a championship – as they were sure to be playing for boarder state bragging rights. Ohio would win the 2nd half battle, outscoring Kentucky in both periods. But it was not enough. Kentucky would hold on to a close 94-90 victory.
Kentucky was led in scoring by Hollingsworth (19 points) and Lawernce County’s Timmy Dalton (16 points). Dalton, the nation’s leading scorer, has decided to take the prep school route post graduation after decommitting from Salem International (NCAA D-II).
Ohio was led in scoring by Kent State commit B.J. Duling (24 points) and Naz Bohannon (16 points). Tommy Schmock also added 12 points. Schmock will be attending Findlay University (NCAA Division II).
