Today, we look at some forwards around NJ to watch for breakout junior years.
Michaelangelo Oberti Michaelangelo Oberti 6'10" | C Morris Catholic | 2024 State NJ | 6’8” | F | Morris Catholic
A well built big man who still has room to grow. He’s got great footwoork and runs the floor well. He’s also got solid passing skills, can finish in the paint and can execute the pick and roll well. He’s going to be an important player for Morris Catholic the next two seasons. He packed on doubule-doubles last winter, including 14&16 vs Union Catholic. He’s one of several college prospects at MC.
Eunique Rink Eunique Rink 6'9" | C College Achieve | 2024 State NJ |6’8” | F | Payne Tech
Rink is a top big man in the class of 2024. A rugged post player who finishes with authority at the rim. An athletic defender who gets up to block shots and grab rebounds with ease. Could be a dominating player in Essex County the next two seasons. 16 vs East Orange and 14 vs North Bergen, double-doubles in 3 of 5 to end the season with 80 blocks. Scholarship recruit.
Caleb Embeya Caleb Embeya 6'9" | C St. Maria Goretti | 2024 State #238 Nation MD | 6’9” | F | Patrick School
Strong big man who spent the summer with Sandy Pyonin’s Roadrunners. He runs the floor like a guard and has powerful post moves but also soft hands to finish at the rim. A very aggressive rebounder and a shot blocker. Top shelf recruit when its all said and done.
Philip Unangst Philip Unangst 6'6" | SF Hillsborough | 2024 State NJ | 6’6” | F | Hillsborough
A long and lean forward who gets out in transition and has solid shooting form. He can also battle in the post with soft hands and good footwork. A fundamental player with a high basketball IQ who transferred over from St. Thomas Aquinas. Two sport athlete who is also a pitcher in baseball.
Julien Leveille Julien Leveille 6'3" | SF Columbia | 2024 State NJ | 6’3” | F | Saint Mary Rutherford
The third 2024 from the Gaels class is the slept on player. While his teammates Luke Gaccione Luke Gaccione 5'10" | PG St. Mary's (Rutherford) | 2025 New E and LJ Falconi LJ Falconi 6'5" | SG St Marys Rutherford | 2025 New E get the press, Leveille is doing the dirty work on defense and grabbing the boards. He was all-league as a sophomore and should have a big junior season. He had 27 vs Wood Ridge as his top game last winter.
Daniel Yarus Daniel Yarus 6'6" | SF Spotswood | 2024 State NJ | 6’6” | F | Spotswood
Big sophomore season has put Yarus on the map. He can play anywhere in the front court. A long forward who likes to play an inside-outside game, which makes him a very difficult matchup for defenders. He is a good shooter and rebounder who will get better and he fills out. He had 20 vs JFK and 18 vs North Plainfield. He should be a player to watch at the smaller school level in Middlesex County.
