Pettiford is more of a scoring point as opposed to your traditional pass-first point guard which gives Pettiford the elite ability to finish at the rim. He is extremely athletic and uses his athleticism to hang in the air longer than most defenders so he can get a shot up at the last second. He can create some difficult up-and-under finishes around the rim. His shooting ability is great; he likes to use his speed and tight handles to create open space for his jump shots. Pettiford thrives in the fastbreak as he looks to seek contact in those situations to draw fouls.

Tahaad Pettiford (Hudson Catholic): Auburn commit Tahaad Pettiford had it rolling at Philly Live session I. Pettiford is lethal off the bounce with his slithery dribble moves, quick change of pace and ability to shoot off the bounce. Pettiford’s methodical pace makes him such a hard cover for opposing guards. In the blink of an eye he can blow past defenders for athletic lays at the rim or make them look foolish on that island, as he pulls a deep-range bomb with his sweet lefty shooting stroke. His quick shifts of direction and change of pace made it easy for him to get to his spots, especially in pick and roll play where he challenged defenders to pick their poison. Defensively, his hands are always active in the passing lanes and he crashed the glass aggressively from the guard position.

Pettiford is a left-handed shooter with a lethal stepback. He pairs that with his tight handles to get almost any shot he wants. Pettiford is great in the isolation settings having a bag of moves to go to when looking to get past his defender. That’s where his quickness comes into play because once he gets you with the first moves he uses that speed to blow right past you. Pettiford is also excellent in transition when handling the ball.
