About Deston
Expert Analysis
Bret Swanson | Prep Hoops Scout
Christian came over from the State of Georgia this past season to play for the Lions. Deston plays the game very aggressively on both ends of the court. He’s very versatile to play multiple positions on the floor at times. Deston doesn’t get enough credit at times for his passing skills. Christian at times will really stuff a stat sheet with solid production on any given night.

Deston has been one of Legacy ‘s most consistent players for the entire season. He has a knack for scoring off the dribble and does so with good size and a strong frame. He is at his best when he’s putting his head down and finishing around bodies as the basket. On the defensive end, he put his body on the line a couple of times drawing charges as well. His best performance this weekend came on Saturday Afternoon when he finished with 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists against Wasatch Academy.

. He had a terrific game against Canyon International Academy on Friday at The Bash, finishing with 18 points and 7 rebounds – 5 of those being on the offensive glass – in Legacy’s 84-74 victory. Deston has a strong frame but is more than capable of taking his defender off the dribble, which resulted in most of his success scoring the ball. Christian also has a very smooth jump shot and is adept at getting to his spots in the mid-range, proving so by shooting 8-13 from the field and 1-1 from behind the arc in the win.

was great on Saturday, showcasing a healthy blend of scoring and playmaking while dominating around the rim. When Christian has the ball in the post, it results in a bucket more often than not as he can score in a number of ways down there or find the open cutter. He looks to have slimmed down a little bit too since this summer which is encouraging for the D2s and low-majors that are recruiting him.

Up from No. 103rnA real inside-out forward, Christian is strong around the rim, able to power through opponents on the low block. Deston also has a soft touch from the perimeter. It’s almost a set-shot, but Christian is a good shooter from the mid-range and beyond the arc. Walnut Grove can either play small ball with Christian at the five or let him play power forward alongside Alex Cannon.

Christian is an interesting prospect. He’s got a mature game, capable of scoring inside and out. He’s strong through contact down low. Deston scores with his back to the basket, able to spin and use a hook shot in traffic. Christian’s outside shooting separates him from most. He doesn’t get much lift at all, but he’s a dangerous shooter from the mid-range and three-point line. Deston bangs inside for rebounds. He had 10 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block.

In what was a low scoring game, Christian packed a punch with his physical inside-out play. Deston does damage in the paint, able to score on post ups and putbacks, but he’s very comfortable on the wing and likes the one-dribble pull-up. He also showed three-point range, hitting a shot from beyond the arc. Christian tallied 13 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in a 51-39 win against Central Gwinnett.

has flourished at Walnut Grove after making the move over from Grayson prior to the season. They run a lot of their offense through him and he’s proved capable of being a 20-25 point scorer night in and night out. Christian’s offensive arsenal is well-rounded and he can hurt you from all over the floor. He’s a great shooter from behind-the-arc and likes to get to his mid-range as well. When presented with mismatches, Christian can overpower defenders in the post. Through the first half of the season, Christian has opened the eyes of many scouts and coaches. It will be fun to see if that momentum carries over into the spring and summer.

continued his breakout campaign with an eye-opening performance against Walton on Tuesday. He went off for 20 points in the first half and finished with 30 for the game. It’s great to see Christian stepping into that leadership role for Walnut Grove where they want the ball in his hands and can look to him for a bucket. He’s beginning to show a lot people that he can be a volume scorer from all 3 levels, knocking down perimeter shots when given space or taking smaller defenders to the low post. His mid-range game is also solid and he hit on a number of turn-arounds and pull-ups. By the end of the season, I believe a lot of coaches and media will recognize

has established himself as Walnut Grove’s go-to guy when they need a bucket. He finished with 25 points in a 2-point loss to Tri-Cities but hit a couple of threes late in the 4th to make it interesting. Christian has solid guard skills with a grown’s man body and can play the 2-4 effectively. He draws a lot of mismatches because he can take smaller defenders to the paint or break down bigs if they try to guard him on the perimeter. He’ll be an interesting prospect to track in the spring as well.
